Message 23592 - Posted: 12 Jul 2006, 20:01:31 UTC

I noticed that my model had finihed crunching a little while ago at which point I had these messages in my log...

2/07/2006 19:21:19|climateprediction.net|Sending scheduler request to http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc_cgi/cgi
12/07/2006 19:21:19|climateprediction.net|Reason: To send trickle-up message
12/07/2006 19:21:19|climateprediction.net|(not requesting new work or reporting completed tasks)
12/07/2006 19:21:23|climateprediction.net|Scheduler request succeeded
12/07/2006 19:22:22|climateprediction.net|Started upload of file sulphur_ddcr_000623835_0_5.zip
12/07/2006 19:23:20|climateprediction.net|Finished upload of file sulphur_ddcr_000623835_0_5.zip
12/07/2006 19:23:20|climateprediction.net|Throughput 44308 bytes/sec
12/07/2006 19:28:09||Rescheduling CPU: application exited
12/07/2006 19:28:09|climateprediction.net|Computation for task sulphur_ddcr_000623835_0 finished

So far, so good...

BOINC showed procesing at 100% and (perhaps foolishly) I decided to click the Update button on the project, expecting it to upload the final data. But I got these messages...

12/07/2006 20:45:08|climateprediction.net|Sending scheduler request to http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc_cgi/cgi
12/07/2006 20:45:08|climateprediction.net|Reason: Requested by user
12/07/2006 20:45:08|climateprediction.net|Reporting 1 tasks
12/07/2006 20:45:12|climateprediction.net|Scheduler request succeeded
12/07/2006 20:45:12|climateprediction.net|Message from server: Completed result sulphur_ddcr_000623835_0 refused: this result was never sent

(the last one in red).

Now looking at my account the work unit shows information from all five phases of the model but the server still thinks the unit is not complete. Unfortunately my BOINC client no longer has a CPDN work unit shown. Has my result vanished into limbo? :-(

if so is there anything I can do to convince BOINC to try an upload again?

It straightened itself out. Sometimes the trickle server is a little behind, and the report confused your BOINC client, but if you look at the result you will see all 120 trickles made it through, and it is in an OK valid state. Also, all 5 sections are complete, and all 120 trickles have been reported to the unit.

So, nothing to worry about, it\'s just the report happeened faster than the last trickle and final upload were reported to the database, and confused the client. It all matched up in the end.

Yes, it was probably the Update to send the \'Ready to report\' that did it.
There\'re good reasons not to do this. It will get sent in a couple of hours, or on the next trickle up of the new model.

Ok, great, thanks folks, you have set my mind at rest. I didn\'t want to think that all that cruching had fallen at the final hurdle.

I just finished a Sulfur WU (result #1152844) and have received some message:

09.09.2006 23:53|climateprediction.net|Sending scheduler request: Requested by user
09.09.2006 23:53|climateprediction.net|Reporting 1 tasks
09.09.2006 23:53||HTTP_OP::init_post(): http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc_cgi/cgi
09.09.2006 23:53|climateprediction.net|Scheduler RPC succeeded [server version 507]
09.09.2006 23:53|climateprediction.net|Message from server: Completed result sulphur_48eq_000297794_1 refused: this result was never sent

Is it really will applied?

The server software was upgraded a few weeks back, and it seems that the latest version has tighter constraints on reporting. (Something to do with other projects, not with cpdn.)

If you look at the result page listed, you\'ll see that all 5 phases are listed on the graph area, along with the overall graphs.
So the data is all on the Oxford server, inspite of what the messages say. (And the researchers don\'t use the messages anyway.)

Note that the new Coupled Ocean models now available need a version 5.* of BOINC to work correctly.

But the result has client state \'New\' and not \'Done\', outcome is \'Unknown\' and not \'Success\'. Is it really will useful?
And what about my credits? ;)

I got 19,281.57 credit for a sulphur model; You have 19,120.89 credits.
Credits are only updated once a day, so you should get the last lot soon.

The sulphur models were a short term (3-4 month) project to get starting data for the Coupled Ocean models. These started on 14th February on the BBC site, and a couple of weeks later here, after which time there was no urgency for more. They are most likely not needed now.
All of the important info needed was in the upload at the end of phase 1, so the server will have everything that it needs from your model.

Messages on the server site sometimes have little meaning regarding the validity or usefullness of the data.

Has your BOINC manager sent it\'s \"Report\" message? This is what tells the server that the model has completed, and the \'labels\' on your account page will then get updated in due course.

Yes, I updated the project manually about 10-15 min after last files were uploaded and received a \"Message from server: Completed result sulphur_48eq_000297794_1 refused: this result was never sent\". And the result was removed from Tasks list of BOINC manager.

That message was probably because the Ready message got to the servers before the data was moved from the upload server to whichever server it ends up on.
The Ready message is supposed to be uploaded about 2 hours after the other data. This is done automatically by BOINC.

So you\'ll probably never get a Success displayed on your account page.
But you should get the credits, because they\'re worked out from the trickles.
