My PC is 3GHz with HT enabled. I have my preferences set to use both virtual cores; one for each work unit. In task manager, a program named Model.exe is constantly using about %50 CPU time and the two WUs that are being run in BOINC are both listed in task manager as hadcm3transum_5.08_windows_intelx86.exe. However, each hadcm3transum_5.08_windows_intelx86.exe process is getting roughly 23% cpu time.
As my only goal is to finish this project as soon as possible, I don\'t care about screensavers or pretty graphs. Does model.exe need to be running? Is halting it a good idea, so that each WU would get 50% of the CPU resources? What is the best way to have this set up for the work being finished as fast as possible? Is running two WUs with HT a good idea?
What would you do?

It sounds like you\'re running CPDN classic (model.exe) and BOINC (hadcm3transum) at the same time. I\'d disable the \'CPDNService\' service (unless you\'re running it for the Open University climate modelling course) and let the coupled models have free rein.

Running 1 model with HT will use about 85% of CPU time. Running 2 models with HT will use 50% of CPU time for each, so the models run slower but you complete 2 of them in parallel faster than you would have done serially.

Running 1 model with HT disabled in the BIOS will use 100% of CPU time and is the fastest way of completing a single model.
