Hello All,

When I got up this morning I was extremely disappointed to see that my sulphur model crashed and was unrecoverable. Looking through the boards I see this is a very common crash with no known solution besides backups. I had no backups, so that\'s 300+ hours down the drain. Anyway, I just decided to add this thread with two pieces of information that might be useful to the dev team.

I opened the yabsd.out and at the end this is to be found:

INANCILA: Error opening file on unit 30 accessed from env.var.:
OZONE
INANCCTL: Error return from INANCILA 1
INANCLA: Error opening file

****************************
Model aborted with error code - 1 Routine and message:-
INANCLA: Error opening file
****************************

Furthermore, since the beginning my model has been stopping unexpectedly every 3-4 hours, supposedly due to the Windows XP time synch (this had previously been verified to trigger this problem on my computer).

This major crash happened exactly 3 hours after the last \'exit with zero status\' (windows time synch), so apparently it crashed during a time synch.

My computer is not overclocked, and I have current drivers for everything.

Specs:
BOINC 5.2.13
Athlon Barton 2800+
1 GB DDR
5900FX GPU
17 GB free HD space

The name of the workunit was sulphur_irzm_200876082

Sad cheers,
Alexis

PS: Should I delete the whole workunit folder or should I keep it for a while?

If you run Norton Antivirus, it could well have been a clash with that (the \'error opening file\' is a hint in that direction).

I actually have no AV software installed. I only have McAfee\'s firewall, and checking it\'s log there is nothing hinting at this crash...

It shows up as a -161 error on the website, but as you know that\'s fairly meaningless. Is there anything in the \'solving crashes\' sticky at the top of this forum which seems likely?

Of all the dozens of \'inexplicable crash\' threads on this forum, this one seems as good as any to set forth my particular circumstances. My sulphur model crashed at 80 F***ING PERCENT COMPLETE, i.e. around the end of phase 4/beginning of phase 5. A mere 10 weeks or so continuous CPU time. Pertinent messages follow:

21/04/2006 5:02:19 PM|climateprediction.net|Computation for result sulphur_iluw_100868136_0 finished
21/04/2006 5:02:19 PM|climateprediction.net|Restarting result sulphur_hjyu_100819030_0 using sulphur_cycle version 422
21/04/2006 5:02:20 PM|climateprediction.net|Unrecoverable error for result sulphur_iluw_100868136_0 (<file_xfer_error> <file_name>sulphur_iluw_100868136_0_4.zip</file_name> <error_code>-161</error_code> <error_message></error_message></file_xfer_error><file_xfer_error> <file_name>sulphur_iluw_100868136_0_5.zip</file_name> <error_code>-161</error_code> <error_message></error_message></file_xfer_error>)

I\'ve pored over the \'solving crashes\' sticky, but none of the proffered causes seems particularly likely. I\'ve even had a look at the \'yabsvd.out\' thingy, but it just stops in the middle of a line. I don\'t know what that might be telling me.

One possible clue: I asked my account password to be resent, only get a message that I am an inactive user! Which raises a second question - how do I get reactivated?

Were you doing anything \"high priority\" at the time, or perhaps an antivirus, disk check, defrag program running at the same time? Any graphics drivers updated lately?

I\'m embarrassed to say this, but there could well have been a clash with...Microsoft Train Simulator!!
