Sounds about right for a 500MHz Pentium to me, Wiper

Don't reset. The WUs for this project take a very long time to process. A couple weeks even on fast computers.

How come the work units are not broken into smaller chunks?

Hi there,

since 'CPDN WUs are too large' appears several times a day, i recommend good summary there: http://www.climateprediction.net/board/viewtopic.php?t=2298

It is also noted on Getting started so should not suprice anyone
http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/download_main.php#time

And - for sure if it would be easy to slice WUs into smaller, CPDN team would have done already :-)
Modelling of whole Earth climate over years is just far more complex that primitive analyzing of radio signals.

Ah, so the problem is that my new-this-year computer, bought for working on big Photoshop jobs, is a badly outdated slow computer. Got it. I'm seeing 1200 hours on my first workunit. In a realistic scenario (i.e. NOT assuming it runs 24hrs a day on my machine!) that's, like 200 days.

One of the computers that I attached with (to see what if it would get work, I wasn't expecting any) was scheduled to take 16000 hours (yes, I have the right number of 0's there). The model eventually crashed (sort of expected but interesting), and the computer has been removed from service as I have a less old, and less slow replacement.
