Visual Fortran run-time error

Nope - not the Norton firewall, and its not Norton Anti-Virus either. Turned off both for a minute or so, suspended BOINC, restarted BOINC, and nearly instantly got the usual Fortran error message. Cant get any SETI stuff at the moment, but thats not this error, its the usual cant get at the SETTI servers to download new units and upload completed units. This is not third party clashes - its looking more like a change to the climate client has introduced an error. I downloaded Climate access today, about an hour ago, for the first time. I am detaching the Climate Project for now until they find this one. Very willing to be a ginuea pig for a possible solution, but I am not having an unknown Fortran run time error running on the PC - however benign it may seem to be on the surface. Zy |

Tried resetting the Climate Project, it downloaded everything fine, got going, and hit the infamous Fortran run time error message immediately on starting crunching. I looked at the file modified date of hadsm3um_4.03_windows_intel86, 24 Aug, I dont know when this error first started, but 24 Aug is not a world of hurt away from the first posts on this thread, given the usual "huh" stratching of the head before reporting it. If the obvious has not yet been done of checking the last changes made before the last compiling of the exe file, then its looking like it needs doing .... Definitely detaching Project for now - no more ideas in my small brain on this one. I'll be back when fixed, still willing to be a guinea pig. Zy |

I am having the same error as many other people, and following the advice contained in this thread and the one on the other thread, I disabled ZoneAlarm. This did not help. Incidentally, I have 2 PCs running BOINC, the other one is fine, even after a reboot. PC1 has been running CP for a couple of days now and everything seems fine. I have just attached to CP on PC2 and am getting the error message. The PCs have the same software installed, are both XP SP1, ZoneAlarm, Windows firewall switched off. Is it really a firewall issue? If so, how come I was able to attach successfully on PC1 a couple of days ago? |

I also had the same problem (17). It seems that only thing that is wrong is the last character in file "spec3a_sw_3_asol2b_hadcm3". When "\" is changed to "/" everything works OK. Maybe on other platforms than Windows both characters are accepted but in Windows application seems not to notice the end of this file with "\". Problem is that this chould be changed for every new data unit, so it should be done at aplication level, not by user at workstation. I have no idea where to report this, so I hope that somebody will do this instead of me. |

Same issue as everyone else (NAMELIST error in visual fortran). using Boinc V 4.05 (downloaded from the BOINC site, not from here) No name (built) PC with 2.8 P4, 1Gb ram, 250Gb HD (dedicated HD for boinc and backups only) with Win XP Pro SP2. Windows firewall is not active on this machine since we have a hardware firewall on our network. If this issue is related to a firewall I'm afraid you can count me (and 15 other computers) out of this project. Perhaps the problem can be tracked down and resolved at the server end. I detached for now and will check back to see if these issues have been addressed in a week or so. |

I was having this same problem (or at least one that was very similar). The thing that helped me was installing WinXP SP2. I know that there are people who have been having this problem even with SP2 installed, but this is just one more possible "fix" if you haven't done it already. WinXP SP2, 1GHz Athlon, 384MB RAM P.S. I also have an HP laptop w/ SP2 and it DOES generate the error as other people have mentioned. Maybe some help, maybe not. Travis |

The CP-boinc server was down for a short while not long ago - I downloaded a model to 'Oony' since the server went back up and it runs okay without any modification. Thanks for the good work nick. I was getting tired of people suggesting things that had no effect on this problem. (ie.. win98? win2000 compatiblity mode, etc.) I would have thought that the 'signed code' aspect of boinc would have prevented corrupted executables from running. |

Robi, I get exactly the same error at exactly the same place. timestep 144 of 259248, 4/12/1810, 00:00 Run ID 1rog_300103372. I dont supose this is coincidence. I notice some red writing above which says checkpoint... |

Guessing, from the error you describe which I've seen on one of my machines too, you're running WinME which is <a href="http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/forum_thread.php?id=660">no longer supported</a>. :( <a href="http://www.nmvs.dsl.pipex.com/"><img src="http://boinc.mundayweb.com/cpdn/stats.php?userID=6&team=off&trans=off"></a> |

It\'s possible that your computer is currently not stable enough for this project. To start with, check for over heating. You may have a builtin utility to show the cpu temp, or you can use Motherboard Monitor. If it\'s getting hot, (say, over 50 degrees), there may be dust clogging up the air intake. One user had this problem, but it wasn\'t until he removed the back cover that it became obvious. Also, raise the computer an inch or two above the desktop, with the back higher than the front. If it\'s not this, post again, and someone will discuss the other 10,000 possible causes with you. |
