Could someone with the appropriate access activate my message boards account? The user ID is \'MikeMarsUK\'.

I set it up yesterday but never received an activation email. I tried to set another account up today, but it refused it because the email address was already in use...

It won\'t let me log in to check the profile etc because the account isn\'t activated.

-Cheers in advance,

Mike

Your account is there, so you should be able to login with your user name and password that you used for that message board.
(Which is not necessarily the same as used here.)

Hi,

Thanks for suggesting that, but I get the message:

\"Message Board Forum Index
Information

Sorry, but your password cannot be retrieved because your account is currently inactive. Please contact the forum administrator for more information.\"

(i.e., The account needs to be activated before I can use that facility. But this hints that the problem is that the account is inactive, rather than something else like a typo in the password)

Similarly, if I try to log in with username / password, the message :

\"You have specified an incorrect or inactive username, or an invalid password.

appears. I think that the second alternative (inactive) is the problem, rather than the \'incorrect username\' or \'invalid password\', since the username appears in the list, and also the send-password tool doesn\'t work...

Stupid question... But have you checked your spam filter? Maybe the email with your activation information was intercepted by it?

Yes, as far as possible - my mail goes through a couple of spam filters : firstly filtered by Brightmail (via my ISP), which discards mail it is 100% sure is spam, and then via Spamcop. Nothing in Spamcop\'s junk mail folder.

Brightmail destroys mail it considers spam rather than merely categorising it (they claim they have a 1-in-a-million false positive rate, at the cost of letting 5% of spam through).

Mike
Sorry about all this.
There may be difficulty receiving email from The Open Uni servers, which is where the forum in question is hosted.
Some months ago we were discussing the lack of notification of PMs and posts on threads to which we had subscribed, but I can\'t remember the outcome.

For what it\'s worth, these are the lines which follow my name and password in the email which I received:

============

Your account is currently inactive. You cannot use it until you visit the following link:

http://www.climateprediction.net/board/profile.php?mode=activate&u=****&act_key=******

Please do not forget your password as it has been encrypted in our database and we cannot retrieve it for you. However, should you forget your password you can request a new one which will be activated in the same way as this account.

Thank you for registering.

============
There are 2 sets of numbers which I have replaced with *s.
I\'m going to post on the board in question to see what I can find out.

It would be nice to see that problem resolved as, I believe, there are a few of us locked out of the message board now. (Maybe not a bad thing !)

I typically use the lost password function as an alternative to remembering all the passwords that I have used at one time or another on various sites.

Unfortunately the lost password function does not seem to work on the PHP board.

I also have a spam filter but it filters everything to a folder. I haven\'t seen anything there that might resemble an eMail from the CPDN PHP board.

Thanks for checking Les.

It\'s the 2nd thread I had in mind. But it shouldn\'t affect new users.
And I think there may have been another one.
It\'s too hot to think at the moment.

I have made this user active now.

When accounts are created they are set to inactive. If you do not respond to the activation email, it stays like that and the user cannot use the board.

If you have this problem, contact one of the site admins and they will make the account active (like I have just done for this user). I have brought up this issue and nothing seems to have happened. I suspect someone needs to contact Paul Alexander at the OU, but I don\'t know how to contact him.

Les ..

No I can\'t (but thanks for trying). I do not remember my password and the password retrieval function seems unable to mail me a new one.

I have another eMail account that I can use to re register under another handle if I get too itchy ....

There\'s a problem with getting emails from the OU servers.
It\'s been passed on to the core team.
