Well I've often had work units destroyed if my PC crashes (SETI on BOINC 3). Will this screw up everything I've done in that work unit? Or have the trickles sent the data back to the server so it can be continued from that point by me or someone else?

You will get credit for the trickles returned to the server. Whether you will have to start again on a new WU or continue with the old one will depend - there are reset points but sometimes the model can just crash.

Experience of CPDN under the classic model suggests that once any teething problems are sorted out models do run to completion on most machines, but there are difficulties with PCs that are underpowered, or unstable becuase of heavy overclocking, overheating, etc. Even machines that appear fairly reliable in other circumstances can be challenged by CPDN - it is a heavy duty application (which is an attraction to many of us!). Personally, I've run 17 full models under BOINC classic and not had an unrecoverable error running release software.

My errors were due to my crappy Gigabyte dual athlon board. It's Abit only from now on! (Gigabyte was the only one I could source in the UK at the time). The PC was just locking up completely whether it was doing anything or not. I think it's better now - motherboard monitor (monitors temperatures etc) was pissing off the board a little, and also I think the cheap raid card has dodgy drivers.
