I just attached BOINC to the climate project. It complained because I was using version 3.2. So I downloaded and upgrade the BOINC client to 4.05. This wiped out all of the pending work for SETI and Predictor that was in my cache. Now predictor complains because I am not running version 3.2.

BOINC\'s primary goal was to allow users to run multiple projects easily. How does one do this if each project requires a different version of the client?

You could have read up on this behaviour on the Predictor and Seti forums, or these forums (!!), as we've given plenty of warnings. If you just know where to look. ;)

But both Seti (today) and Predictor (soon, somewhere this week) will change over to version 4.0x as well.

Hi Gandalf,

sorry for your loss.
I usually do back-up prior to any updates - it have saved my bottom more than once.

It wouldn't have helped in this case. The advice from Seti ( posted somewhere on this board ) etc was to stop 3.2 from downloading any more work units, letting them complete and then upgrade. They did say that 4.05 won't run the old seti workunits and you'll have to download new compatible ones.

Thanks for your response. The postings on both forums appeared shortly after my orginal post so I now understand the problem.

FYI, Seti have just converted over to v4 of the main BOINC core client.

Instead of getting a 'you need to use v3.02' message, I'm now getting a 'no work available' message (as I'd expect, since everyone's changing over today).
