I have been having problems running with the application downloading the zip file and then boinc hanging. I\'m having to restart my computer and I then get the following message:
climateprediction.net - 2004-08-26 19:11:46 - Unrecoverable error for result 0139_300026398_0 ( - exit code -2 (0xfffffffe))

Please advise

It can appear that BOINC has hung if there is a problem with the download (e.g. a checksum error). If this is the case you can restart the download by performing a project reset. If you're using the GUI interface you need to left click on the project to bring up the menu. With the CLI version it's "boinc_cli -reset_project climateprediction.net".

thanks Thyme, I have seen this happen on our mac and a "Reset" seems to clear it. Apparently BOINC doesn't "retry" when it downloads a bad error (which would be nice, I'll tell DA to retry 3 times or so). I've noticed this on modem downloads especially.

ahh, sorry, Win98 & NT4 aren't on our compatibility list. Only Win ME/2000/XP. The old CPDN runs under Win98 but you may not have enough RAM as the program takes about 50-55MB running? And the old CPDN really doesn't run well on less than a PIII/800MHz. Sorry about that, but these climate models are enormous, it's about a million lines of code (40MB of source code).

Is there any chance that they will make it compatible with 98 and NT4 at some point?

I don't think so, it seems that when we moved to Visual Studio.Net ("VS 7") we lost compatibility with 98 & NT4. The "classic CPDN" was written with VS6.0 and that works on 98 & NT4.

That is a real shame, Carl. I am force to run Win98 for compatibility issues with old business software. That's 10 host you've lost at my site alone. Perhaps the BOINC team could help you out with a Win98/NT version.
