Every time I reboot, I get this error window:
-------------
BOINC Runtime Exception - 108 File Operation Failure
Failed to reopen stdout for diagnostics redirection (overwrite)
Filename: \'\\Boincsrc\\Main\\boinc\\lib\\diagnostics.C\'
Line: \'93\'
--------------
After I hit OK, it seems to run normally. I\'ve exited BOINC and restarted it with no error - it only happens after a reboot.

And your Windows version is what exactly?
Are you logged in as Administrator and do you have full write & read rights on the CPDN/BOINC folder(s) and all the files there in?

Windows XP Pro SP2. I am logged in as administrator and have full read write access to all files.

I am running BOINC version 4.05 and the hadsm* versions are 4.03.

Since it's SP2 you're using, it could well be that the firewall is interfering with your setup as soon as you reboot. But I'll have to leave that in the hands of Carl & other users of XP with SP2.

I have two machines that do this exact same thing when rebooted, & two machines that don't - all four machines run WinXP SP2 with the 'firewall' & 'security center' services disabled. The only common factor with the two machines that show this error is they're both VIA KT333 chipset motherboards, the other two are both NForce2 chipset motherboards.

I have the SP2 firewall turned off as I am using ZoneAlarm Pro (never had a problem with it even though a lot have).

Funny... My computer has a NForce2 chipset and *has* the problem, so I doubt that is it. :)

Just out of curiosity, uk_nick, are you running NOD32 antivirus? I'm asking because it was the cause of a previous problem.

Nope, I don't run any anti-virus software on my DC dedicated machines...

I'm getting the same situation:

It's only just started since my last reboot, (ie. only once so far). I've also got an NForce 2 board (ASUS A7N8X-Deluxe), so it could a problem.

After the boot error, I found the model running (but didn't check the visualisation). Then, just to check that everything was good, I restarted the client and got this:

climateprediction.net - 2004-08-30 00:30:47 - Resuming computation for result 03q7_200029816_0 using hadsm3 version 4.02
climateprediction.net - 2004-08-30 00:30:47 - ACTIVE_TASKS::restart_tasks(); restart failed: -144
climateprediction.net - 2004-08-30 00:30:47 - Unrecoverable error for result 03q7_200029816_0 (Couldn't restart the app for this result: -144)

The model then stopped, going back to 0.00% and after restarting the client again, I found that it wanted to report results (with the correct CPU time).

I'm hoping it won't happen on the next reboot, but comments so far haven't been good.

ps. no nod32 & am running with XP SP1 as Admin with all rights. doh, and I downloaded the latest client from the CPDN website (4.05) - is that OK?

Well, it's still happening on every reboot. I have verified that it is not caused by NOD32 Anti Virus. Anyone find a solution yet?

Not sure, yet - still testing. What version of the BOINC client are people having this problem running?

I've gone back to 4.03 and the problems have stopped, with crunching full steam ahead.

Hope a developer checks this question and and finds out what's wrong with 4.05. Try 4.03 and see what happens.

After I first replaced 4.05 for 4.03, it ran fine for the day without rebooting, then when I came home I rebooted, ran the client, and then, guess what, the shortcut couldn't find boinc_gui.exe. Both the executables had been erased! Norton Unerase registered that "Application" had deleted both boinc_gui and boinc_cli. Can't figure this one out.
