Today I've received a WU with the sulphur cycle. The deadline is 24/01/2006. According to the BOINC the WU will need 1662 hours to be finished; that's about 69 days (if I would use my PC 24/7 to crunch CPDN).My PC's on-fraction is 82% (But I also crunch other projects, so CPDN receives a bit less) with this number it gives 83 days to finish a WU. I believe this is very thight since maybe there could come a period when I'll unable to crunch, also other projects also needs CPU time.

I hope that in the future the deadline will be increased back to one year. Just to give us a choice to donate CPU time for other projects too.

In answer to another person with a similar question, Thyme Lawn said that cpdn deadlines are not absolute and that if you go over, your model will be allowed to keep going as long as it trickles regularly. Assuming that the sulphur model is the same in this respect, you would only have to watch your machine more carefully after 24 Jan, making sure it works hard enough to trickle.

The Sulphur model has only just become available, and there are teething troubles with downloads.
Carl has said that it was setup to check the computer specs before downloading, so that part time cpdn processors, and those with slow computers, or the wrong version of BOINC, would get a standard 'slab' model.
However, it hasn't worked that way. In fact some people have reported getting Sulphur when using BOINC 4.19, which won't work; 4.45 is needed because of enhancements.
Carl is going to look into it next week.
Deadlines are tight because they need results quickly. The coupled model starting soon will be similar.

The project is starting to move into the serious part, so it will need crunchers serious about cpdn. But the 'slab' models will still be there.
