I setup both Einstein and Climateprediction yesterday and all that has run so far is Einstein. Using BOINC (ver4.37_windows_intelx86.exe) the Work Tab> Status for my CP work reads \"Ready to Run\" Einstein has run 18hrs and Climate has done nothing. I set preferences at both sites for them each to have 50% of the computers time but they don\'t seem to be switching at all. I have the program set to \"run based on preferences\". I set the interval between switching at the default of 60 minutes. Einstein and CP confermed in the Message Tab that \"General preferences have been updated\" Report deadline for Einstein is prior to CP.

Any ideas, what am I missing. Thanks in advance.

Einstein could be in panic mode.

See <a href="http://boinc.berkeley.edu/sched.php"> Scheduling</a> here.

Les, thanks for your useful posting.
Einsteins in panic seams unlikely as Einstein estimates 30HRS to completion and has 12days to deadline. I also found a lot of useful info at.

Is it a sulphur model that is causing earliest deadline first then?

I think we are going to get a lot of this.

The deadline has been set short for the sulphur cycle because they need some results back in order to start the hindcast on schedule in Feb 2006.

People are going to have to think whether they really want to do a very long sulphur cycle to the exclusion of everything else for a while then give CPDN a break for other projects.

A sulphur cycle model may not make any sense for a 350MHz computer. The min suggested is 800MHz for the previous model and sulphur is 2.7 times longer. We need a way of getting slab models to these slower computers rather than the sulphur model.

Perhaps also an option of a sulphur model with a long deadline for those who cannot reasonably finish by the Feb 06 target.

Sorry about this, sulphur has only just been launched and there are a few problems with the way the models are being sent out yet.

As Samuel said, Einstein has a nasty habit of sending BOINC into panic mode. If you want to run CPDN for a few days, manually suspend Einstein using BOINC Manager, or set Einstein not to download more work. It also might make more sense to run just 1 project on your computer, as Crandles suggests.

I have this problem also, and it has been a year with the last post. I downloaded the newest version of Boinc, CPN, and Einstein last week. The downloads were necessary because I have been idle for about a year and wanted to get going again.

I have CPN set for 2/3 of my resources. My computer has a P4 3.4 Gh processor, 2GB DDR2 RAM, and 95 GB of disc space. Einstein still monopolizes all project time. I have set Einstein to \"no new tasks\". I am still a little perplexed because I had thought my computer had enough juice to run almost anything I threw at it.

Something still needs to be fixed somewhere.

Perhaps this is your General preferences setting for: Connect to network about every

If you have this set for more than the default value of 0.1 days, Einstein, being VERY much shorter in work time than the 2000 plus hour climate models, will keep getting all the attention so as to finish before the deadline.
Another thing that can cause problerms is constant fiddling with BOINC settings, called \"micro managing\".

I notice that you currently have three climate models running.
Have you been clicking on the Suspend in the Tasks tab? This will cause BOINC to download a new model each time, so as to keep the science application busy.
