NOT ... "Rant Mode ON" This has got to be the most screwed up Project ever developed.

First off I was granted about 8000 Mysterious Credits some time ago around the time of the huge RAC Increase for a lot of people. I didn't ask for this Credit & don't know where it came from but figured the Project must know whats it's doing (Boy was I way off base there) ...

So anyway I didn't run the Project for the last month or so and decided to start back up again yesterday. Well now my Credit is slowly dropping from where it was instead of increasing as I turn in Trickles. So far I've lost over 3000 Credits even though I've turned in about 15 Trickles.

Is this some new fang-dangled way CPDN is issuing credits by subtracting credits or what. I love it if it is & hope all the Projects Adapt to this subtracting of credits philosophy ... Now where the hell was that Detach Button again is all I can say ... "Rant Mode Off"

Carl and Tolu have been doing a lot of work in Oxford to sort out problems with credits and other things. Your credit should sort itself out without you having to do anything.

What really matters to the researchers is completing the models. Are your machine and its model both behaving?

Hi again

I've just had a look at your results. Is that a whole farm/herd you've got there? Pity the machines are hidden! I can see why you want to rack up the credits. Everybody does always say that they get the right credit in the end.

Misallocated WU started some time ago.

What did CP do about it?

First they did some maintenance on the database which was causing the issue.

Next they prevented re-ocurrances by upgrading the trickles to using the code of version 5 of the BOINC CC. This was a lot of work.

There was a bit of a pause in the activity on this issue. But that doesn't mean nothing happened with the project. Sulphur cycle has gone into beta and a new version of the app was released to solve the graphics problem to name just a couple of the things that have happened.

Now Carl has fixed the leftover problem with the credit for misallocated WU going to the wrong host.

You may not like the decrease but if you weren't really entitled to a spurious increase, isn't it better to correct problems?

I see this as a big improvement. :D

I have no problem with the loss of the Credits because I already said I don't know why I got the big increase in the first place. But whats puzzling me is as I turn in the new trickles my credit goes down instead of back up.

Maybe this has something to do with my hosts not reporting any trickles for a month or so & now that they are their being adjusted. If I loss much more credit I'll be below where I was before I got the Increase ... :P

If you're talking about RAC, a fix has been put in place. This meant a change in the way that all credits were calculated. They are now granted by a program which runs every 12 hours, so if you have a low % of processor time allocated to cpdn, your RAC can fall noticeably. But Total Credit WILL keep increasing. Slowly.

There does seem to have been some random problem with recalculated credits!!

Between 6:30pm on Fri 29/07 and now (Sat 30/07) my credits have inexpicably dropped from ~123,000 to ~102,000!!!

If I was still in the "United Kindom" team, I would have dropped 5 places compared to the surrounding team members as a result of this!!

All those I had, as far as I worked out during the whole time on the project were correct on the basis of what had been run and completed and nothing appeared "wrong". Perhaps with this continual credit problem over the last few months with the project, it is high time to scrap this idea of credits and just count the number of runs completed as some kind of token of work done for CPDN.

What's the point of "credits" when they are so fickle and meaningless as a result of various "recalculations"

Pete

You might also like to look at the ongoing discussion in the cpdn php forum, where there's an ongoing conversation on this topic in the Participation in the Experiment section. It's called Just Recalculated a lot of Credits.

=========

I'm not talking about RAC, RAC to me is about as fickle as this Project is ...

I'm talking about Total Project Credit, I see a Trickle turned in and granted Credit but my Total Credit doesn't go up any, if it does anythging at all it drops some more ...

If you look at my Signature I show 108,222.53 Credits for CPDN, yet right now my Account only shows 105,994.12 Credits and thats with turning in over 20 Trickle's since yesterday ...

Maybe I should turn all my Computers around so the Credit goes up instead of down, that would be about as good a fix as I've seen so far around here ... ;)

It's quite possible that the total from the stats sites was taken from XML files that were produced before the recalculation. If that's the case, the stats sites should have the right amount on the next update, sometime later today GMT.

Well that explains it all, it's the Stats Sites that are all screwed up & not CPDN. I knew there was a logical explanation for it all ...

I guess the Stats Sites will be ok until next weeks weekly re-calculation of the Credits ...

the recalculations were done today, so you noticed them today, but they were applied to all results before today. but trickles will be adding credits as usua -- there were a lot of results "cross linked" with the wrong host due to an old boinc bug which I never recorrected (it was just a few hundred results), and the database problems in May/June (which led to thousands of incorrect credits/results). I'm sorry for the angst this causes.

I see my Credits are starting to go up again so I guess the Project is done with it's Indian Giving ways for now anyway ... ;)

I do wish there was some way of getting rid of all the Invalid Hosts though, I show 13 Hosts when in fact I only have 7 Hosts Attached to the Project. Theres now way to Merge or Delete all the Invalid Hosts I have & it makes it confusing which ones are still active with the Project ...
