Hello, I\'m a student who was until recently running CP.net/BOINC with my PC connected to my university\'s LAN. Now at home, I have connected my PC to a Broadband connection, and as a result BOINC appears to be unable to upload its results to the CP.net server, constantly giving the error message \'Deferring communication with project...\' I use Windows Firewall, which has been configured to accept boinc_gui.exe .

Any help with this would be much appreciated. As the founder of my team I expect e mails from all my friends soon asking \"Why\'s it stopped working!!\"

Thanking you in advance.

I think there is a problem at Oxford. For the last 3 hours I've been getting:

[---] Can't resolve hostname [climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk] (valid name, no data record of requested type)
[climateprediction.net] scheduler init_op_project to http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc_cgi/cgi failed, error -113

It's Sunday evening there, so nothing will get done until tomorrow morning. Unless there is a public holday for the Queen's birthday, which will mean Tuesday morning.

My Boo-Boo.
I obviously wasn't fully awake. At 5.30am I went to upload an overnight trickle and found that I hadn't disabled net access, so there were lots of red error messages. BUT I wasn't logged in, so the errors were BOINC not getting to the net.

I just 'woke up', (pun intended), to the problem and tried again, with success.

Sorry all.
(Now, where else did I post?)

I'll have to keep thinking about your problem, Michael.

Les

Can you look for the upload_when_present tag in your xml files and see where the upload url is.

I think there are 5 but someone else reported a problem with
http://cpdn-upload1.comlab.ox.ac.uk/cpdn_cgi/file_upload_handler

Is it possible to test this upload server?

crandles

I must admit to being a bit incompetent with this kind of thing, but I found in BOINC\client_state_prev.xml a line stating that my upload when present URL is;

http://phkup21.unibe.ch/boinc/file_upload_handler

does this help? Thanks for your time.

Mike :-)

Hi,
Your problem is you only have part of you Boinc enabled on your firewall their should be also Boincmgr.exe x2 of each (as on my firewall).

To resolve this un-install Boinc and reload (shouldn't lose any calculations done). Windows XP home/pro. will or should ask if you to allow/denign access to internet. This should resolve the connection problem.
