How come people are talking about running v4.43 of BOINC, when the download page only offers v4.19, and I'm still running v4.13 on my laptop?
With all this downloading technology, doesn't BOINC download the latest version of itself?

New BOINC versions fix specific problems. Sometimes they introduce new ones as well. I imagine CPDN hasn't gone above 4.19 on their download page, at least partly because newer ones can create those problems (visualization problems with ATI, and some Intel chips, above 4.19, among other problems). Since newer versions of boinc are sometimes updated for fixes specific to certain projects, and those versions can introduce unforeseen problems for other projects, the BOINC application does not update itself automatically.

If you are running 4.13 without problems, you may want to wait a little until there is a 4.4x version that is proven to be reliable and has no major bugs. But many people are running 4.43 quite happily and will probably be able to make an upgrade without problems. Note, however, that you will have to delete 4.13 (you should not lose your current model if you install the new version into the old folder, but keep a backup).

There is a slight error in this advice. You must uninstall the older version, if you just delete it there will be regestry entries left behind and you will not be able to install the new version.
