Hi,

I've been running BOINC for about a month now and haven't had any problems. But now HadSM has just decided to crash (with a nice little Windows bug report box). I think it might have been very close to the completion of Phase 1, if that's relevant.

Status now: Computation error
Version: BOINC v4.38, HadSM3 v4.12, Windows XP SP2

Don't know whether this is because I upgraded to v4.38..

Otherwise, climatepredicion.net rocks! Buy mugs, they're great :-)!

Hugo

PS: I have a backup of the BOINC directory from a week ago and BOINC hasn't reported the error to the server yet. Is there any way to restore from the backup before it reports?

Just Suspend and backup again. (Doesn't hurt to be carefull).
Then delete the BOINC folder under 'Programs', and copy back the entire BOINC folder that was first saved.
If you have 'Disable BOINC Network Access' ticked, it won't report before you do this.

Thanks, Les. Only problem is that I have other projects running as well as CPDN and if they get reset to a week ago there might be some problems. Is there any way I can just copy the old CPDN project data over leaving the others intact? And is it possible to somehow adjust a file to tell BOINC not to contact the server?

Cheers,

I have the same problem. On a hyperthreaded processor, both models have crashed within a few days of each other, again with the Windows bug report box. My Windows info is the same as Hugo's but I'm running BOINC 4.19

I'm not really qualified to answer this further, as I'm only running CPDN.
Basically, there are files in slots folders, files in climateprediction.net, and some xml files in the BOINC folder.
It's the latter that are the problem, as it/they contain info for ALL your projects, and would probably need editing.

Hate to say it, but it may be simpler to just start a new model. 4.38 has been reported as causing errors for CPDN.

Cool, I have done that now and am back on v4.25 with less chance of scattered crashing :-).

Thanks for your help.
