hi
I have SETI, Climate and Einstein tunning thru BOINC. It was all working fine until I changed my climate prediction to have more time than the other 2 (so they get 100 each, and climate 200) and when I clicked the update under projects it says: sending request to setiboinc server. WHY?! It never did that before! It comes back saying invalid or missing account key. I entered the project again hoping it would overwrite what was there, but no won't let me. The only thing I can see is to detach but that would waste 29 hours of work! Is it a glitch or is there someway to check the info in the program to see why it's set itself to the seti server for climate? Any solutions appreciated!

Exit BOINC and go to your BOINC folder/directory.
Open Windows Exporer and on the file Account_ClimatePrediction.net.xml right click.
Select Open with...
Select NotePad

Check and correct as needed these 3 lines:

http://climateprediction.net/
5xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx0
climateprediction.net

I think what you have is cross-linked the projects... I've done it before but I don't know how I got there. You might also want to check the account....xml files for the other projects you are attached to.

Hope this solves it for you, Skip

Hey Skip they all read as they should. Every single project I have BOINC attached to is trying to connect via the SETI server and I can't join any other projects - it won't let me! I'm afraid I'm not understanding too much on the xml stuff, so will check with you. Should the keys in the Client_state.xml all read the same i.e. email_hash and cross_project_id they are all listed the same for each project.

Yes the keys should be the same.

The latest thinking on cross-linked projects is that it's to do with the 'master.html' file which tells BOINC the scheduler address for the project, but the name is (currently) common to all projects.

A fix to give the file a project-specific name has recently been checked in (not included in BOINC 4.25) and it's hoped it will fix the problem. In the meantime you could try the following sequence (no guarantees that it'll work, but it's worth a try):

1) stop BOINC.

2) edit client_state.xml.

3) search for the string '<project>' and scroll down to the line with the tag '<nrpc_failures>' and change the value to 10. Repeat this until all the projects have been modified. You'll also need to make sure that the value for the <master_url> tag is set to the right thing for each project.

4) restart BOINC. This should hopefully force it to reload the scheduler address for each project in turn.

If that doesn't work try the same process for each of the projects one at a time (make sure that the value for 'nrpc_failures' isn't a multiple of 10 for the ones you're not trying to update).

thanks for this I tried didn't work :( everything is as it should be, other than this. All projects I'm running are trying to connect to the SETI BOINC server, with no exceptions. Will reinstalling/upgrading or something help? Anything to alter on site prefs?

The problem is at the client end, so altering preferences won't change anything.

You should have 3 'project' sections in your client_state.xml file, and it sounds like the project names are probably OK. For each of the projects the 'master_url' setting should be the same as in the account *.xml file for the project, and the 'scheduler_url' setting identifies the scheduler the project has to connect to.

For CPDN the relevant settings in the 'project' section are:

<master_url>http://climateprediction.net/</master_url>
<project_name>climateprediction.net</project_name>
<scheduler_url>http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc_cgi/cgi</scheduler_url>

My guess is that the last one is currently set to the scheduler for S@H (as will also be the case for the E@H project). I had hoped that my previous suggestion would have forced the 'master.html' files for the each of the projects to be downloaded again and update the scheduler URL, but it obviously didn't work.

You could try stopping BOINC again, changing the CPDN project settings in client_state.xml to match the lines above (sorry, but I can't help you with what the equivalent lines are for E@H) and then restarting BOINC.

thanks for all your help. I have to admit I installed new client (it had upgraded) and got fed up and deleted some files and ended up starting again. It was an accident but at least it's all working again now. Thanks alot for the help. Incedently everything was exactly as it should have been (as you described) I really have no idea why it did this! Still I hope it doesn't happen again!

thanks again!
