Hi guys. I just returned to the pages after a long, painful, computer-less absence....

The guy who put my new comp together for me installed Climate Prediction and it's been doing really well. It's only since I got back to these pages that I found out I'm running the classic version.

Would it be better if once I finish phase 3 of the current model, that I uninstall the current version, then update with the BOINC version of Climate Preditction?

Cheers!

Welcome back :-)
Yes, after finishing classic model, I would uninstall and upgrade to BOINC...

She might also be interested in how to prevent Classic from downloading another model. It was long ago when I first BOINCed, but I think it was a setting you had to change in your CPDN profile.

Argh!!!

Just finished phase 2, moved over to my first Phase 3 which although exciting is not showing up on my profile here, just on the CP old page... which I know it says don't use but I couldn't resist looking at. Why aren't we supposed to use that anymore?

Anyway, even though I put in my old user ID into that thingy in the 'my account' section so my results from this model will be counted, nothing is showing up. I assumed that this would happen when my comp posted the results from Phase 2... But no... My competitive streak very much wants to see my rank and stuff in this new place, especially since now I actually have a decent machine :)

So very sad... And also because I was hoping for an iceball in Phase 3 and it just seems a little drier....

Cheers!

Hi,

>Why aren't we supposed to use that anymore?

That was just to encourage people to switch to BOINC and the BOINC stats don't show up there.

> Anyway, even though I put in my old user ID into that thingy in the 'my
> account' section so my results from this model will be counted, nothing is
> showing up. I assumed that this would happen when my comp posted the results
> from Phase 2... But no... My competitive streak very much wants to see my rank
> and stuff in this new place, especially since now I actually have a decent
> machine :)

Just switch to BOINC as soon as you've finished that one. Won't be long with your super new machine! :)

Marj

Hi again Mistress D

Glad to know you're still around. You'll only get Boinc stats when you start Boinc.

What did you do with the old, slow computer? BTW - how many model(s) did you crunch in how much time?

I gave my old comp to a mate who had even a worse comp. He can salvage it for parts and hopefully build something at least he can play games on...

And the old comp only ever managed to get through 40% of phase 1 in over 6 months. My new comp managed that in a week, only being on a few hours a day... hehehehe :) I love my new computer. It's nice to be able to buy games now and not have to worry about the system requirements.

:)

But aren't they planning to modify potatoes to incorporate vaccines, so you'll be able to get polio crisps, and so on. Could perhaps be an improvement on some of the current flavours.
