Even giving the whole computer two days to sort itself out it still crashes. I have Windows ME and it's an Athlon processor.

Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you look at it) that page is outdated. Carl fixed the Win98/ME problem in late September or October. My ME PC is on its 4th model without problem.
