It depends which server the result is being returned to.

uploader1.atm.ox.ac.uk is stuffed, phkup21.unibe.ch is functioning. You can see for yourself by switching the URLs, but be sure to backup your files first because the other server will reject the files because the signature is wrong.

I guess there must a good reason why the upload server is set when you download a model, but I can't understand why it isn't dynamically determined when the model completes.

One result uploaded to cpdn-upload1.comlab.ox.ac.uk this morning, but I've now got 2 waiting for uploader1.atm.ox.ac.uk :(

Anyone seen or heard anything about the upload problem.

I suppose TPTB do know about it?

Hi Honza, sorry for the delayed reply -

No, I unfortunately do not have access to any information above that which is public to us all. I did work as a university employee, briefly, early in my career, and recently did a 9 month consulting project for a major university. While I cannot speak directly of Oxford specifically, my experience with universities is that the environment is very different than private industry, since the projects are usually non-profit, and much of the work is done by PhD students & volunteers, who are often very busy with many other matters besides just the project-at-hand. Often, even the investigators & thier assistants are busy writing funding proposals, academic papers, instructing, giving lectures & seminars (possibly involving traveling), etc., etc.

I guess this is a long way of saying the project ppl may not be aware of the prob, may not have immediate resources available in technical people or $$, or an "authorized" person may not be available to "officially" communicate any problems, or problem status. The fact that this was a weekend, makes it even more likely one of the above scenarios could occur, IMO, since its even more likely people are doing other things not project related (including enjoying thier personal lives).

So my statement was conjecture, based on my prior experiences working w/i other universities, & was not based on any "hard" info.

Haveing this problem also. BOINC 4.19 tried to upload results multiple times. Will continue as I don't want to lose 500 hrs of work.

K.

PS - Can't find a 'server status' page on this site, as is provided on the SAH site. Any chance?? or did I just overlook it.

Is the city of Oxford still there? It hasn't done a Brigadoon by any chance?
Or was the Oxford / Cambridge boat race on the weekend, and everyone's still 'under the weather'?

It's getting a bit ridiculous, really. There should be SOMEONE there who has a look at the servers,
modems, etc, each weekday to see if everything is functioning.

Perhaps some one nearby could ring them. If you've got a few hours to spare listening to 'on hold' music.

Thanks for the answer, i understand your point now.
I'm at university for couple of years as well (even being only a student) and i think i know little bit how it works.
I have also been several years among leadership group of international non-profit organization with about 2000+ members in Czech only.

Despite of this, i still think that no answers at all is bad scenario - it doesn't take long to write a bit about progress or at least acknowledge that problem is recorded and is on the list-to-do.
See Les Bayliss post - i really know how you feel.

Tolu has been working hard on Alpha sulphur cycle project recently (and it seems to be moving again) so it's likely that he is now working on upload servers. I can't say for sure since i don't know and there is, again, no answer. I can use Stratcat statement here as well - it's a conjecture, based on my prior experiences. A likely one i guess/hope.

Oxford is still there, probably under snow. My classic run is trickling regularly.

How come when I try to register for the classic, it says unable to connect?

I have problems with BOINC on AMD (freezes my computer). :(

Hola IrDePesca

Maybe the download of the package to run cpdn classic uses a different server from the trickles. 24 hours ago my computer sent the end of phase 1 trickle and received the phase 1 graphs back. But it's clear from what people are saying that at least one Oxford server is down.

I have looked at the classic download pages again, and see that you have a choice of getting classic from Oxford and the mirror site in Milton Keynes. If Oxford refuses to connect, try the MK link instead. Install it as a service. Que tenga suerte!

I just pinged uploader1.atm.ox.ac.uk

the request times out, no reply. so indeed the server is either down or
offline (or both).

at http://status.oucs.ox.ac.uk/ there's a link to
http://networks.oucs.ox.ac.uk/ (resolves to draco.oucs.ox.ac.uk)
which gives no reply either.

So my guess would be, that there's some kind of failure in the university
network, thus disconnecting uploader1 from the web.
in this case the CPDN team could do nothing but wait until the problem in the infrastructure was fixed (eg. a faulty high speed router replaced, etc.)

somewhat like 2 or 3 years ago seti@home witnessed a hispeed link severed by
scavengers! the project was down for more than 2 weeks.

But they really need to be able to easily redirect PCs trying to upload to a downed server to another server. This is the 2nd time this has happened in BOINC CPDN (the Bern server was hacked last year). So something needs to be coded to allow for that possibility.

Even with an infrastructure failure, you can't tell me they are unable to make a comment about the issue on the forum...

Hi,

Server still down this morning.
Perhaps we could play a little game by betting which month the server will be up again. April's not bad.

April? Don't be a 'fool'. May is more likely. One can pun around for ages with it.
