Tonight on PBS (here in the central U.S.), the program Scientific American Frontiers has an airing of "Hot Planet, Cold Comfort" which looks at how the weakening or shutting down of the ThermoHaline Circulation may occur and its effects. It should be on a couple more times this week as well.
