Downloaded BOINC, screensaver said nothing running. Exited from program on Task Bar and now screensaver says BOINC is not running, please launch BOINC to display graphics. Won\'t launch. Did not get an email with anything to put into the settings but can\'t get to the settings now.

The failure to start usually seems to mean that there is another instance of BOINC (either CLI or GUI) already running.

I don't have a clue, I just uninstalled and reinstalled and I can't get the blue ball to show. It just makes a flash in the task bar. Only one program shows in the program files.

Received this error:
BOINC runtime exception. 108 file operation failure. Failed to reopen stderr for diagnostics redirection (overwrite) Filename 'Boincsrc/Main/boinc_public/lib/diagnostics.C'Line '79'
Also, Failed to cleanup the Windows socket interface

These definitely indicate that there is already another instance of BOINC running on the system, Kurt.

Is presume you're running BOINC 4.13, in which case there are various reasons why this can happen:

1) Trying to run the GUI client when the CLI client is running as a service.
2) There's a GUI client shortcut in individual user and all user startup folders.
3) You do user switching on XP and the GUI shortcut is in all users startup.
4) You have individual user startup folders linked to the all users startup.

These are the ones I've come across, but there may be others.
