Roger, that! It's a major improvement over the sequence in 'Classic'.

I second your motion, Nick, to have a capability to change servers, preferably automated, aften -n- failures to connect.

> > Hey the what - at least CP-boinc gets on with the next model whilst
> waiting.
> > ;-)

What if it doesn't? My BOINC says there is "No work from project". Can I tell BOINC a different server to go get work from? Since LHC is also out of work my 'puter is quite bored.

At least LHC has a nice status line, on their main BOINC page, which says "Server up. Out of work." CP which doesn't tell you anything about any server. It would be nice to have this little information line so one doesn't have to go searching the forums when your PC quits communicating with a BOINC project.

I only have 24 hours and then the hard drive gets formatted... sorry if i have to drop a result. After this though, I doubt I'll reconnect the box to climateprediction :\

The total file size for my waiting upload is a bit over 7 megs, and I would think
that others would be similar. Perhaps you can copy the 5 zips (and a few other files if needed) to a CD. This way the data would not be lost and it may be
possible to get it to Oxford some other way / time. I don't know which other files
may be needed; client_state perhaps? And the files in "slots"?

Any Gurus know? And, in view of the prolonged "Down-Time", should we ALL backup
our zip uploads "just in case"?

the server in Switzerland is still dead, with no sign of an improvement soon (they need to replace a power supply).

See grahamd's translation of a page from another unibe.ch server. Doesn't smell like a burned out Power Supply.

It could be both. We were told that the server was shut down 'for maintenance' which is consistent with the report that the system was being used for unauthorised purposes. The problem with the power supply is said to have occured only whwn they tried to reboot.

We need "sticky news" or a server status page that allows admin comments for stuff like this - linked from the web root.

p.s.: although I dried out BOINC with "-exit_when_idle" and nothing is missing but the upload, the client still needs 100% CPU.

(not to end crunching for CPDN but to start my own account :-) )

Sorry, the 100% is not a CPDN problem, it's a BOINC bug - although I had "-exit_when_idle" it downloaded one more WU :-(

Going to have to delete this unit soon (re Tuesday at the latest).

Can't we just email you the zip files?

It sounds extremely fishy the stories the admin (used in the loosest possible terms)is trying to fob you off with. Sounds like they are a bunch of idiots to me who have never administered any PC before let alone opened one up!

Do you really have to use these guys? After all if they cant fix whatever problem they have in 2 weeks (since the 1st post of this thread) its time to ditch them.

I just hope any new units (including the new one I got) are not assigned to any server in the same location as the one they busted. Any more major problems and I'm packing CPD in.

My WU was uploaded four hours ago. The one I'm crunching now also goes to the same server. I hope the server will be OK next time.

EDIT:

In the Results Page, my WU is still marked unfinished. I hope the results didn't disapear in the atmosfere :-|

I am having IP requests forwarded from the bern.ch server over to Oxford, so they should be uploading now.

No joy here - the packet re-direct doesn't appear to be working for some people. :-(

I also managed to upload.
Now waiting for it to show on my results page.
What I did:
I'd read about forcing an upload, but didn't know how that worked.
If you have files waiting for upload at the end of a run:
They will show on the transfer page on the BOINC GUI..
Right click a file and you'll get the option to upload now.
(In my case, two files can upload at a time)
Hope it may be useful.

FYI, my upload problem finished by these 2 errors:

climateprediction.net - 2004-11-23 13:16:07 - Giving up on upload of 33fk_000165871_0_3.zip: too much elapsed time
climateprediction.net - 2004-11-23 13:16:04 - Couldn't delete file projects\climateprediction.net\33fk_000165871_0_1.zip

Only 2 zip files were concerned, the other ones uploaded successfully.

I'm glad I disabled BOINC's network access if this is what happened to some files - the 'elapsed time' only increments whilst BOINC is trying to upload. Did you notice roughly how much time had elapsed when it gave up on your files..?
