Following on from the success of the project open day in 2004, and the Royal Society exhibit last year, we\'ve decided to make this summer\'s project open day a \'virtual\' one - both so that more participants have a chance to be involved, and because getting all the project staff in the same place at the same time over the summer would be nigh on impossible!

Key project staff and students (Myles, Carl, Tolu, Dave Frame, Dave Stainforth, Nick, Duncan, Kuniko, Hiro, Pardeep, Ben, Daniel, Sylvia) will be recording talks which will be put up on the web site from the end of July.

Between now and 12th July, please post questions/ comments here that you would like to see addressed in the talks, and we\'ll do our best to cover them.

Hopefully, the boards will also provide opportunities for discussion after the talks are broadcast

.. but, I have just found out, credits from this will not go towards BOINC totals, so if you care about these, wait a couple of days or so until we start distributing the same experiment here...

Carl has just told me that bbc.cpdn.org credits will NOT count towards BOINC totals, so if you care about these, its probably worth waiting for the same experiments to be distriubuted here (in a few days or so, once everything has settled down a bit)

If any existing BOINC people want to join in the new experiment before its available here, you can attach to bbc.cpdn.org (better than downloading new client from that site)
But please dont detach from the experiments distributed here - we still need the results!

You can now download the advanced visualisation package to look at the climate of the worlds you have modelled using BOINC.
http://www.climateprediction.net/AdvancedVisualisation/advancedvisualisation_intro.php

What do you think?

The package is now much more adaptable, thanks to Colin's hard work, so it'll be possible to role out versions to go with new experiments much more easily.

Hello,
We're currently running a bit low on leaflets (having ordered 6,000 not so very long ago, a lot just went to the British Council who will be sending a cpdn exhibit to embassies around the world), otherwise I'd offer to send you some.
For anyone in the UK, a good time to pick some up will be at the Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition - 4-7 July at the Royal SOciety in central London. Admission is free and 25 science projects from around the country, including us, will be showing what theyre all about. There will be a web cam and a web version of the interactive bit of the exhibit for those who can't make it.
I guess I'd better order a load of new leaflets with the first mug proceeds!

Delivery really is a lot, particularly to the US.
I asked why at the shop, and was told that theyre not happy with it, and have tried to find the cheapest way. The only cheaper alternative they could find was surface mail, which can take weeks and therefore makes their delivery times look unacceptable...
sorry. they suggested bulk buying too...

Its just the one shown on all the pictures, black background. Its easier (and cheaper!) to keep it simple for now.
They're estimating 28 days for delivery. I can't wait - all our sample ones have been taken by important visitors who got given cups of tea in them and decided they liked them!

Thanks for the offer, Beezlebub, we're still looking in to it, but suspect that the legal/ security issues for participants (you will have access to everyones email addresses, which they werent asked to agree to when they signed up, and if phpbb is vulnerable then we cannot put the board back up knowing that the database with everyones e mail addresses in it is vulnerable...) will mean that its not possible.
We're still working on it!

I'm sorry, I didnt see that in time!
If you are in the UK, the coverage has been hard to miss last night and this morning. Local radio today 4-5pm, Sky news 5pm and possibly later today as well.
And the Sunday papers should be a good place to look too.
Unfortunately we've not always managed to get the project name (or website) in ...

If so please send an email with your phone number, email address,
country/state and name to Hannah Rowlands h [dot] rowlands [at] physics [dot] ox [dot] ac [dot]uk. We intend to make this
information available to the media closer to the time, for a limited period of time only.
