1) Message boards : Number crunching : Too many total results? (Message 16710)
Posted 22 Oct 2005 by Profile old_user870
Post:
Forgive me if this was asked sometime in the past, but on the work unit results page, under errors i\'m seeing the following message for most of the units i\'ve done (if not all...only did a sample): \"Too Many Total Results\".

see http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/workunit.php?wuid=287012 for example.

I was just curious as to what is causing this, and if it is interfering with the actual results/science.

Might help if I include the log entry. This is what comes back whenever I try to manually update:

CPDN on my computer is having problems connecting to server, and has been like that for a couple of days now, i suppose. I now realize I cannot connect to the http://climateprediction.net URL, only to the direct oxford site. Is there anything currently wrong with the domain? And is there any alternate URL I can use to connect to server?
5) Questions and Answers : Windows : Setting a computer as \"Work\"? (Message 5149)
Posted 8 Oct 2004 by Profile old_user870
Post:
I have a slow computer that i\'m running CPDN on, that when the project is running you cannot do much of anything else on the computer (even printing goes to a near stop). I am trying to set the preferences so that this computer is ID\'ed as Work, with related setting that stops processing when the comp is in use, but it keeps defaulting back to Home. Is this a known issue, or what can be done for this?

Okay, it appears that the results and stats are being re-parsed or something. trickles are slowly showing back up, and credit being re-granted.

I don't know whats going on, but the credits have reappeared, albeit (for me at least) about 600-700 fewer than I had. RAC is also significantly decreased from 295 to 256... very odd.

9) Questions and Answers : Windows : Launch Version Is Up Now (Message 1840)

> Actually, thinking back to the alpha trial this is what happened to me. The
> old work units are invalidated but not scrubbed from your machine. Because
> the run is incomplete there's no problem with deleting it from your system.
>
> It is a good idea to hang on to the results from completed runs because only a
> small subset (10MB out of over 300MB) is returned to the servers. If your run
> is of particular interest it is possible that the project eam may want to
> retrieve more of the results or download another program to perform further
> analysis. If you've deleted the results the model will have to be run again.
> If you are short of disk space you can always back up the results.

makes a lot of sense. i'll delete the work units; is it safe to delete the 4.02 executables since i reset to get 4.03?

> > (still haven't worked out/been told what reset actually does).
>
> It removes everything related to the project (including work units in
> progress) from your system and requests a new set of programs and work from
> the server. The computer retains the same identity (as opposed to detaching
> and reattaching, which will allocate a new computer identity).

Well, here is something strange then... I just did a reset to get version 4.03, yet nothing was deleted, and all 415 megabytes of data generated from the last running workunit (only 5 percent finished, so i wasn't worried about lost worktime) are still present on this machine. Will this garbage go away after a time, or should i manually kill it?
