That was already discussed in the old CPDN Forum... You know from overclockers that it depends a little bit on the CPU what you calculate. So you can't split the model in e.g 1 Modelyear WU which is calculated by several CPUs!

> > About the benchmarks...
> >
> > I ran them 5 times over a few hours period on my laptop. The first time
> I ran
> > them they were really high (2190 float point, 4400 integer) for a p4
> 3Ghz
> > laptop, .5GB ram, XP Pro, the next time about half (1400 fp, 2800 i),
> next
> > (1100 fp, 2600 i), next about normal (1050 fp, 2500 i), and this is where
> they
> > stayed. The first was run on a cold (literally) computer. The only
> > difference between one and the next was time and temperature. Seems a
> little
> > odd to vary by such a huge amount. Makes you wonder about the accuracy
> of the
> > benchmark.
> >
> > Andrew
> >
> >
>
> If the temperature of the p4 gets too high (~70°C) "thermal throttling" is
> activated, which means that the processor gets slower.
>
> in this article it was tested:
>
> the only thing that would help is better cooling.
>
>

Hmm... my PC is getting very hot while running CPDN. Perhaps that's the reason for my performance lag

> > > Hy Scott,

> > > Duron 1400 Mhz, 256MB, W2k, 5.0 s/TS
> > >
> > >
> > >
> >
> > How confusing, I have double the memory, Windows XP, and a Duron 1800MHZ
> and
> > your s/TS is lower?
> >
> > Do you use the computer? or is it a dedicated system?
> >
> I`m using the System normally for my E-Mail and Office. A important faktor is
> the cache memory size of the Prozessor. It´s for the all Duron the same
> (256kb). Perhaps the quality of the normal mainboard RAM (Kingston 256 MB
> CL2)? The quality of the mainboard? But I´ve got a cheap ECS L7S7A2.
>
> Also i think it´s not so much difference between 5.1 and 5.0 s/TS.
>
>

The motherboard is important for the performance.... but i think it's also a prob that the client semms to be intl optimized

> BTW, Admiral, where do you get the TS info from in 'doze? Its easy in linux as
> there is a line logged for each timestep containing TS, s/TS average, etc, and
> it only takes a couple of lines of shell script to produce 'time of next/last
> trickle', etc. Doze, even using the cli, doesn't provide a (easy to find)
> log.
> Cheers,

The first value s/TS is calcualted as follows:

i wrote parser that won't crash with the damaged client_state.xml so i can readout the CPUTime. from another XML File in the WU directory i can read out the current TS. Then i divide the time trhough the TS. The anothe value Acutual perofrmance. Counts the time from one update of the XMl file WU dir to the next and divides that time through the calculated TS in that time. That's all :-)

BTW: Recognized error in Linux version. Will update that soon!

> > Hi, that page is just something I threw together for pc's that have
> trickled
> > at least once, it's generated once a day. I put an .xml.gz (gzip
> compressed
> > xml) in the /stats dir
> >
>
> > it appears that cpdn/boinc is Pentium4/WindowsXP-"centric" so far! I
> will
> > experiment with other options. Unfortunately Mac's are a bit
> underrepresented
> > due to the sluggishness of the Mac Fortran versus Intel.
> >
> Hi Carl,
>
> Something curious about this table. My dual Opteron 246 running Linux with
> 2.14s/TS and 2.21s/TS seems to have slowed down from 2.175s/TS to 6.167.
>
> Flying the flag for Linux :)
>
>

Linux rules. I have a much better performance on it!!! i hope 64 Bit Client will appear soon!!!!!!!!!!!!
