Les, thank you for the hyperbole. I didn\'t know - they should tell us.
It has got up to 11 Dec and no trickle yet.

No problems this time. Spent a couple of minutes unpacking, then off it went. Thanks for your interest.
I wish the model was smaller - at the current resource share I will be completing it 3 months late. Will this matter?
The checkpoints are rather far apart, too - they used to be 42 timesteps, now 432.
Do you know how many timesteps between credit qualifying trickles? It used to be 10,802.

Yes, I checked the Task Manager, and the usage was zero.
At first I thought it was unpacking, but after 1.5 hours there was still no progress. With the graphics window showing no graphics, I could not see how far it had to go to a checkpoint.
Tried re-booting the machine, and still no difference, so aborted the unit. Will report back when I am allowed to get a new one. On the results page, it says CPU time zero for this unit.

I\'ve just finished a Sulphur cycle unit (about 1200 hours on this machine), and as a Christmas present to myself downloaded a new unit. It turned out to be a BBC unit, but was vast, 2450 hours. If I am to return it before the deadline, I would have to increase CPDN\'s resource share from 23 to 30%, which I don\'t want to do, as it would limit the other 3 projects on this machine.
The unit never got started however, and whilst \"Running\" never changed its counters nor gave me a picture of the world in graphics view. So I aborted it, but now I can\'t get a new one for 24 hours.
Is there any way I can specify that I get a smaller unit?

No, \"Downloading\" means it is still downloading, \"Ready to Run\" means it has finished downloading, and is, in fact, ready to run.

I have the same problem with a new unit downloaded a few hours ago. When this unit gets its share of resource time, it switches from \"Preempted\" to \"Running\", but nothing seems to happen. The CPU time still says \"-----\", Progress still says 0.000%, and To Completion still shows the original figure. The Show Graphics window will open, complete with text, but no world.

Exit and re-starting made no difference.

Dagorath,
Thanks for all your help on setting up this bat file. It did not work till I put it in the Boinc file (it did not recognise Boinccmd.exe as a valid command). Then I had to allow BC access to the net, which it had never wanted before. Now I can deal with these small matters \"in house\" without having to bother one of the projects, and then perhaps waiting for the preference to take effect. Instant. Wonderful. Thanks again.
One further question. Rather than delete an individual line to allow a project\'s prefs to take effect for that item, how do I turn that line into a comment?

Did you have to re-boot or re-start Boinc for this to take effect?

Go to the User Home page which has the heading
Welcome to the climateprediction.net BOINC user pages! at
http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/index.php

Under the heading Returning participants click on
Your account - stats, preferences
then under the heading Preferences click on
General preferences specify when and how BOINC uses your computer View or edit.
The last line in the headings says
Primary (default) preferences (Switch View).
Click on Switch View.

Well, it\'s still not working now. And another funny thing - when I try the new combined display, there is no column designated \"Default\", but one called \"General\", and NONE of my set preferences appear in there.

The red message appears on the preference page after an update, not in Boinc Messages. The black message should appear in B M that the preferences have been updated, which does not happen. And my machine does not get updated. Note, this only seems to happen in updating DEFAULT General Prefernces.

Kathryn - yes, I saw something about this some time ago, but it seems to be ok now (with Seti).
Astro - thanks for the confirmation. You have raised an anomaly. If nothing transfers back to one\'s machine(s), how can the Suspend Network Activity go inactive? There is no option for that in Prefs!

You could still help, if you want. After making the small change in CPDN general prefs, updating that and then Boinc Manager, that change should then appear in your global_prefs.xml file.

Yes. I usually press return, but as a test I pressed the actual button. The screen always refreshes with the red notice that preferences have been updated, but they then do not transfer to my machine.
Someone else with more than one project needs to test this. Make a small change to prefs in CPDN, update Boinc, then update another project in Boinc, and see if the change has propagated to that other project\'s preference pages.

Since about 24 hours ago, when I change the Default General Preferences on this web-site and then press the update button in my Boinc Manager, the messages tab reports that my Scheduler Request has Succeeded, but then does not add the lines saying my preferences have been updated, and, indeed, they have not.
But it does work the other way. If I use another project to change the preferences it does report correctly, and when I press Update Climate, those prefs get transferred to Climate.
I have re-booted twice since the problem was first found, and that has not corrected it.

I understand that The Global Prefs file is only looked at once after BOINC starts. I am not prepared to keep booting and sacrificing the time lost on each project since the checkpoints were recorded.
I may be wrong, and will experiment with this.

I use CPDN to change my general prefs at least twice a day. No problems this morning, but this evening was a different story. Brought up the prefs page, made my changes, pressed the update button on that page, then went to BOIC projects page, selected CPDN, pressed update, them went to messages tab as usual to check. It did NOT say the preferences had been updated. Checked the CPDN page, and the prefs had reverted to what was stored in BOINC. The prefs were going back from BOINC to CPDN, and not the other way.
Repeated the excercise on another project site with no problems.
I can only surmise that the time tag CPDN is attaching to the new set of prefs being entered using CPDN is wrong and is either blank, or earlier than it should be, so it thinks the prefs on BOINC are later, and reads those back from BOINC and stores them as the latest.
