A few credits have gone missing for a few days, so what.

As long as its only credits it does not matter they can be regenerated again when all the equipment is up and running.

The important thing is that hopefully no returned work was lost, if that happens then we have got to recrunch it again. that would mean delays for whatever else is in the queue.

Nothing works perfectly all the time, life would be no fun if it did:-)

Just out of curiosity, what is the definition around here of a hoarder?

I recently had few of these ghost ones and did as WB8ILI suggested here. Detached and re-attached to the CPDN project. Besides getting rid of ghosts one frees WU's for others to crunch. In my case they were too old and labelled as No-Resubmission, but for newer it should work just fine.

It also clears out any old files left over from previous CPND projects etc.

Thought so.

A server side cure does put extra loading on the servers, client side most probably don't even notice them anyway.

Just for those that are curious - when you have no work on a machine and a ghost or two listed online a simple detach and then re-attach will make them available for others.

Just a thought.

Is there anything in the pipeline about ghosts?

The WU's that appear in your tasks list but never appear on your machine.

with such a long deadlines there must be a few in limbo somewhere.

It helps to keep a short buffer. If you load up on projects, BOINC has no choice but to try and get them done on time. It has no other way to prioritize them.

Sometimes buffer length settings are dictated by another project and when you are not expecting to get anything from CPND and in a single request you get 4 tasks (_1 or_2's) as happened on the 4th of this month to me, yes they will all be processed, but it may take a month to do so.

It might be an idea to ask if buffer settings per project could be set in Boinc, but that would have to be requested elsewere. This would also be very useful when getting work from Einstein which has short deadline work. I know that we can set NNT per project but sometimes I do not remember untill it is too late.

One thing that has got to be taken into account, not all people that are doing CPND work are doing it as their main project, some of us have other projects, mine are SETI and Einstein.

I think that the very long deadline was an attempt to get around a BOINC problem.
I don't think that they should actually run.

A longer deadline is handy, I only run CPND as a secondary project on my CPU, as it is only a secondary project I normally try to only allocate 1 or 2 cores to CPND, unfortunately sometimes I have to pause these for several days at a time.

Sometimes I find that I get clobbered when work appears here, nothing for a long while then crash more work than I need. So sometimes some work units may not be processed immediately, they may be subject to some delay.

I am not asking for a full year but 3 to 4 months would a comfortable deadline.

CPDN does have a habit of accumulating old files etc. I have found the easiest way to clean up is to set no new tasks and when all tasks are finished and reported to remove CPND from BOINC then add it again as a new project.

OK, getting replies back, so several things:

The following is mostly intended for the mods, but I've included it all:
As the number of failures appeared to steadily be increasing for batch 238 (wah2_ri version 7.08) I have now removed the remaining workunits from this batch from the queue. However I am still very interested in how the workunits that have already been taken up progress. If you have any of these workunits running on your machines and are able to capture the working directories or .out files this would be very useful to us. Also if you have other information on the failures - when they are failing / how long they ran for this would also be helpful. Similarly if you have information on these workunits running successfully that would also be of benefit.

Just for those that have not done this before, (like me).

I have two of these, one of which has just started running, It has failed on a previous machine.

Where and when are the files present, and where would you like them sent, I am assuming this is only for files that fail.

Thank you.

Kevin

Here the same! All hadam3p_eu fail to download.

I've had 15 fail to download, almost all of them have also failed on other machines.

Got 10 new ones, all downloaded ok.

I assume that the credit script has not been running for the last 3 or 4 days. My RAC is dropping like a stone despite CPDN running on all 10 of the cores on my 3 machines.

If RAC is dropping like a stone, then the script is running - because (on this project) the script recalculates RAC from first principles every day, the same as credit.

More likely no new trickles are being processed, as somebody asked a couple of days ago. Today is a public holiday here, so I'm not even going to bother reporting it until tomorrow.

RAC dropped from 30th to the 3rd, it has since leveled off. I keep an eye on FREE-DC and I have not seen anyone getting credit since around the 30th.

However, to save you from getting involved in rocket science,

I could not handle rocket science now, just had a "fun" night driving around with a high sided trailor.

I will leave these zip files sitting in the transfers list, the tasks are showing as in progress but with full credits awarded on my computer page.
