1) Message boards : Number crunching : Daily RAC vs. total RAC (Message 37489)

Post:
Thx for the info geophi. I wonder why this is the case? Plus I would love to know how much credit I am really generating, givien that they now run 24/7. Before I ran my pcs most, but not all of the time. So, I am curious about the increased work output now. Maybe I should set my preferences to another model type to see what it produces. Thx again geophi!!

2) Message boards : Number crunching : Daily RAC vs. total RAC (Message 37486)
Posted 17 Jul 2009 by old_user565985
Post:
Hi folks, I have a query. My daily RAC is much higher than my total credit on a daily basis. So, for example, today my RAC was around 21,400, but my total went up only the usual 6000-7000 per day. This is how it has been for ages now. My daily RAC far exceeds the total (per each day) that I see climb. I would have thought that no matter how many WUs one has waitig for validation, the two figures would eventually come out in the wash, so to speak. Does anyone know if this is normal and for that matter, why does Boinc behave this way? Les, milo, anyone know this one? Thx in advance!!

3) Questions and Answers : Windows : Running Boinc GPU client w/ CPDN (Message 37441)
Posted 9 Jul 2009 by old_user565985
Post:
I have looked over the GPGPU threads and it seems that at least one person is running both a CPU Boinc program, as well as the GPGPU client. But when I downloaded it, the Boinc version of my CPDN software changed to the version used by the GPU client. Is anyone fimiliar with running the GPGPU Boinc and CPDN? Presently, I am running four computers on various Boinc projects (CPDN and the Clean Energy Project at WCG), but I would love to use the extra GPU power to do some useful work. If I am going to run these computers 24/7, I might as well give it all the work it can handle. Does anyone know if they will conflict? How will the other version of Boinc effect the running of my other Boinc projects? Although I can choose to have no screen saver, does anyone know if the two different screen savers will conflict (as it did when I tried to add Folding@home to my GPUs)? Great thx to anyone who can help with these questions!!!

4) Questions and Answers : Windows : very slow server speeds (Message 37433)
Posted 8 Jul 2009 by old_user565985
Post:
Thx mo.v for the info. It is just so slow. Anyway, I went and picked up a router today so that i don't have to sit there and wait for the four different computers to download, and upload, their WUs. Now the downloads can be done without me doing a hard reset on the modem and moving the ethernet cable between them.

5) Questions and Answers : Windows : very slow server speeds (Message 37431)

Hi everyone. I think Milo will know the answer to this one, but anyone can chime in. I have several computers running on different projects. On all other projects, my broadband speeds are there, but on my Climateprediction work, my speeds are only roughly 18 KBps. My service is up to 12 MBps. The other Boinc projects will just zip by, but it takes forever to download new WUs from CP. Does anyone know why this is so slow? Is it my settings? Or is it just the server itself? Thx in advance!

6) Questions and Answers : Windows : Four days with no RAC updates. (Message 37376)

Thx to both of you for your input. When I did not receive any fresh updates I began to wonder what the problem was. Poor Milo; he has his hands full with all of these issues. I hope one day he can get an eager grad student who believes in this project to help him out. Hopefully, this problem can be worked out early in the next week.

7) Questions and Answers : Windows : Four days with no RAC updates. (Message 37373)

Well, as I noted in another thread, I have not recieved any updates to my RAC, or my totals, for four days now. The server status page shows that all the various servers are running. Does anyone know why this is happening or when we might get back to the normal state of things?

8) Questions and Answers : Windows : Bizarre behavior of HadamP3 downloads (Message 37357)

By the by, the system did not update today as far as RAC or anything else. Furthermore, when I went to check on server status, it is nothing but a blank page. Any ideas if we are having server problems right now?

Thx Les also. I thought that this was coming from the messages that the server was sending me, rather than from the statements on each pc. I think that maybe I did hit (or click) the update button and that did upset the apple cart. At this moment it does say that 2 WU are in waiting, which does differ from the earlier six WU. Hopefully, everything will go smoothly from here. I will post again once the two WU near completion finish up and see how my pc and Boinc react. Thx to all for helping out. For now, my fingers are crossed........

10) Questions and Answers : Windows : Bizarre behavior of HadamP3 downloads (Message 37349)

Geophi;
Sadly, it does not say that at all. In fact, it all happened in a flash and it said nothing about the aborted attempts. This is what it says:
started download of 1989_12_init.gz
update requested by user
Reporting six compeleted tasks; requesting new tasks
Scheduler request compeleted; got 0 new tasks
Message from server: no work sent
Message from server: No work available from UK Met office HADAMP3
Message from server: (reached daily quota of 8 results)
Message from server: (Project has no jobs available)

These last four lines are all in red. The transfers simply disappeared in a flash before my eyes. I then went back to the 'tasks tab' and there were no more waiting WU to start (that is to say; the six that were there in anticipation of the finish of the six WU nearing completion). There is nno mention of the aborting of all the downloads, or the disappearance of the six waiting WU in the task tab. Any ideas as to what has happened? I am at a complete loss as to what happened. Any enlightenment is VERY appreciated!!!

I hope someone can explain something that just happned to me. Six of my eight running WU were getting close to finishing so Boinc started to place six new WU into place to run just as soon as my WU ended. Also, at the same time, I was recieving a host of new downloads. Suddenly, Boinc claimed that six WU were completed (they are not done yet) stopped the six new WU and withdrew them, as well as retracting all the new downloads!!!!!!! It also claimed that the daily quota of 8 new 'results' had been reached!!! Furthermore, it says that no new work is available from the UKMet office for HadamP3.Does anyone know what is happening? Les? Milo? Anyone? Thx for any help in advance.

Thx for the update Milo and Les. It is too bad that they could not send some eager grad student to go and get it lol. When I did my PhD at U. Edinburgh I loved driving around for various things. Anyway, I will keep my fingers crossed that all goes well and it comes tomorrow.

Does anyone know where the new PSU is for the uploader1atm server is? For the love of God, it should have been there last Tuesday. We are nearly a week later on, and still no PSU. If I still lived in the UK I could have easily driven anywhere there and gotten it long ago. I think someone needs to really apply the pressure to the company that supplies these units. Any info would be welcome.

Thx so much for the update. I will relax until Monday lol! I was completely unaware about the need to have all three servers up and running. Hopefully, they can all be running by early next week. Thx again!!

Does anyone know the current status of the uploader1atm server? The power supply was supposed to be installed on Tuesday, but it is now Friday in the UK and nothing has happened so far as I am aware. I have 17 zip files now which want to go and 6 finished WU which I would like to clear out. Any fresh info woule be helpful

17) Questions and Answers : Getting started : Problems with adding another PC (Message 37150)

Post:
[quote]I'm not sure; it may be related to the current server problems.
See the News and Announcement thread at the top of Number Crunching for posts about this.

One other problem that you'll be facing, is that uploads of trickles and zips have been suspended, so you should put all models into Suspension until this is fixed. Set the project to No new tasks first!

Thx Les. It turned out to indeed be a case of the server problems. Over the next hour or so, it sent the remaining 4 WU to my new PC. With the server upload.atm1 down, I now have 17 zip files ready to go and 7 finished WU to clear off the books-so to speak. I had hoped that this server would be running again on Tuesday as it stated earlier on the posts concerning this. Does anyone have any fresh info as to when this server will be back running?
Thanks again Les!!!

Hi! I am having trouble adding a core-I7 920 pc to my account. Boinc recognizes that it has 8 cores (i.e., 4 physical and 4 'virtual' cores with HT), yet it downloaded only four WU. With my core-I7 940 pc it downloaded 8 WU, as one would expect. Why it only downloaded 4 WU is a mystery to me. I buy these pc because of HT adding so much more to multithreaded apps and, of course, to run more WU on CN. Does anyone have an idea why it did this and how to get it to run all 8 WU as it should? Thx in advance!!
Cheers
Bill
