When I returned, I downloaded new Climate Prediction jobs (I had none.) They seemed to upload okay as they were completed, but suddenly stopped. This has not happened to the other projects I work on (SETI, Rosetta, and World Community Grid). All the .zip files just seem to be stuck in the transfers folder of BOINC. Restarting my computer or restarting BOINC hasn't solved this. The Climate Prediction main page says all the servers are working fine. I'm not much of a computer person so I'm kind of stuck here. Should I just dump the four projects and start over?

Regrettably, it was of no help to me (or many other people on that thread). As such, since there is no resolution to this problem in the foreseeable future, I have suspended crunching data for the climate prediction project and am working on projects that are accepting data. There is not much point working on a project which simply sits.

This is not a problem with other BOINC projects I am running. The last contact it shows with my computer is on 4 May. While there is an explanation why I could not upload on 10 or 11 May (a tornado hit my town and damaged my home and the electrical grid), that doesn't explain why I cannot upload data before or since then. The server status shows as "up" but it doesn't seem to be accepting my data.
5) Message boards : Number crunching : Credit Status (Message 57238) Posted 28 Oct 2017 by anymouse Post: I'm not obsessed with credits, but yesterday when I looked at my project stats across the four projects I participate in (SETI, Rosetta, World Community Grid, and this one), and noted my points plunged from a little over 850,000 to zero. Having dealt with everything from "computation errors" to my Internet provider that uses two cans and a string to provide me Internet service at about 10% of my monthly income (and I ain't rich to begin with), coupled with my very pedestrian understanding of computer software, I need the point display to tell if what I'm doing out here in the High Plains outback is accomplishing anything. My wife (who is a retired software engineer) noted the same when her points plunged to zero: She can't tell if what she's doing on her (much faster) computer is doing anything at all. Without feedback from the program (as expressed in points), as far as I can tell all I am doing is running up our electric bill. Without feedback from the project administrators, I can't tell if the project gives a diddly damn whether I am doing anything or not. I realise the importance of the study of climate science and the horrendous amount of number-crunching required to make decent climate models. If I don't know if the data is being processed then I can devote my computer's time to more looking for potential disease cures (or aliens). When I get data from Climate Prediction, I usually get three or four blocks of data. I put all but one on hold so I can run multiple projects. Right now I don't see any point to processing the three blocks I have until I can determine if I am actually doing anything other than overheating my laptop. Some feedback on this problem from the administrators would be nice.

(Message 55450) Posted 8 Jan 2017 by anymouse Post: I don't normally poke around my statistics much, because I know I will never get within tens of thousands of places in the so-called leader board. That said, I was poking around my statistics this morning. Looking at my completed projects, the site says I have ninety-three completed projects pending validation, some going back as far as 2011 (AD). What is required for a project to be validated, how long does it normally take, and how long do these unvalidated projects hang around here before someone says "meh" and round-files them? I would think six years would be long enough to validate a project, but I am not any more a computer wizard than I am an auto mechanic. Could someone explain how projects are validated, and why they hang around so long? It would seem an awful waste of my computer resources to work on so many projects that will never be used because they are not considered valid.

I have been using Boinc since before there was a Boinc, back in 2001 when it was just the old-fashioned SETI programme. I discontinued working with distributed computing in 2003 when a tornado destroyed my computer. and SETI became Boinc. The original Boinc programme was User-Antagonistic, and when I asked for help as a non-computer programmer or geek (one who tells computer how to operate in my parlance) all I got was hate mail in my E-box and flamed for my lack of knowledge on the forum saying I shouldn\'t be operating computers. I have enough knowledge to puzzle out E-mail and play games. Fine, they obviiously didn\'t need my distributed computer or its twenty free hours a day, But I thought I would try once more, five years later. My choice is to work with climate change, as I have had a a long-running interest in weather going back to age ten or so. But I am still not a programmer, and no doubt I will be frequently here to ask for assistance. If you can put up with that, my computer is at your disposal about 20 hours a day. And SETI? I was on it recently, but they changed over to this thing called Astropulse with 400 hour data blocks, and about at 300 my computer would cough up a \"computation error\" with no explaination, and over 500 hours of computing time has gone uncredited because of it. It was a waste of my time, and electricity to keep going with SETI. James. Don\'t leave home without him.
