1) Questions and Answers : Macintosh : "Transferring" work units from one machine to another (Message 49376)

As promised, I am replying with success or failure and an explanation. Unfortunately I have failure to report and not a lot in the way of explanations. My Time Machine sparsebundles did not have a complete file since long before the tasks I was looking for. I think that I 'had everything backed up' but hadn't actually included the BOINC stuff in the backup to save disk space.

Now that I have no way of restarting the tasks, does anyone know how to kill them. I can of course see the tasks and computers in 'Your Account.' I find no way, though, to indicate that either the computer no longer exists or that the tasks should b put back into the pool for redistribution. Do I just wait until the deadline passes and that will be done automagically?

Thanks,
Scott

Thanks for the info. I had become afraid that:
It is a lot like doing a restore after a crash.

I don't have the old machine anymore but I think I can comb back through Time Machine Backups of it to get the relevant files. I'll post back here with a description of either success or failure so that others can either follow or avoid my path...

Thanks again,
Scott

I have just upgraded to a new machine. Prior to the upgrade, looking through posts and general goggling, I was convinced that the work units would be downloaded onto my new machine once it saw that the old one was not on line. They would effectively migrate to the new machine and start back up at the last checkpoint.
Instead, it seems like boinc is only looking for new work. I can't figure out how to force it to find the old models I was running to restart.

Was I naive that it could be that easy...
Thanks in advance for any help folks can give me
-Scott
