Calling people a loser, and telling them to "sign off" the project? Yeah, you're really all about the cause.

Guessing you were a legacy at Carleton - I always knew those of us from the U of M have more class.

I agree. I picked all of the projects I deemed worthy. I try to be as fair as possible to them all and don't think of myself as a "credit whore" - but...to say there is 0 influence would be wrong. Especially if a project gives dramatically less than average per hour of CPU time crunched.

I think there are about 16 projects worthy, however, I don't want to dilute my resources to the point where I'm not giving projects much of anything.

I really think there should be a standard among all boinc projects. However, that's a tangent to this thread and I apologize.

The projects that give credit in a timely matter - I'm willing to bet this have better user bases than those don't. Just saying.

I don't apologize for partially using credit as a way to keep going on this stuff. I've been on BOINC since 2006, before that years before I had done SETI@home starting in 2000. Would I still be interested 14 years later if not for credit of some type? I mean I'd like to think so, but.....I like seeing it build up, and comparing myself against others. It's not like they hand out trophies or monetary prizes. It's just something to keep me going.

And I wish it was enough to keep others going. The user base is going down. Fewer, but people with better and more machines are changing the user base away from everyday people just doing this on their spare CPU cycles, to really hardcore people. I consider myself to be one of the ones in the middle.

It will influence the graphics card and computer I buy, however, I don't have enough money I can really get as many machines involved as I'd like. We need to KEEP more of the regular users, because in the end, they will add up to more than the power users can. If BOINC is going to continue to be viable, we need to keep the everyday user.

Yeah I have like 1.5-1.75 million seconds that say "completed" - not an error message, and I got 0 credit. Not sure if this is continuing or will be fixed. Should I put the program on hold?

Sorry for being negative before. I'm not trying to hate on anybody.

I'm trying to spread the world - I want more people doing this. That's all I'm trying to do. And I think - when things....appear shabby to people - you guys are right - these kids probably don't know the difference. But - I think so far, it hasn't been as "neat" as I could have made it.

So - Just I hope that appreciation is there. The faster this gets done, maybe I can win a few people over to stay on after the class is over. That's really my ultimate goal.

I'm not the professor BTW. I was asked by him to demo this and to "lead" a team of us in it. So more than teaching them even, I'm trying to get converts.

Having no jobs is even worse.

Choosing this project over Harvards on the world community grid was as horrific decision.

BTW, the sites "internal" stats only give total credit, not credit since joining....and if you haven't noticed, they aren't exactly right either. For me they're going up and down, but either way.....The stats thing could be much better illustrated through a 3rd party site. Not that that's the only thing this is about - HOWEVER, I do feel it is part of what keeps people donating and being apart of these projects (which is what I'd ideally like to have done.)

But my timing and the timing of this project could not have been more off.

#badidea is all I can say. I'm sticking with it, so. . .hoping it improves.

I'm trying to teach a class about BOINC and climate modeling, and we are PURELY doing this project. This update couldn't have come at a less timely time.

I was trying to turn some new people onto BOINC, and you are making that very difficult with your seemingly putting these scripts on the back burner.

Thanks.

Yes - what I was talking about was:

http://climateapps2.oerc.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/result.php?resultid=16216875

It appeared as if it crashed on my computer at the end when I rebooted, but...it seems to have given me credit (and hopefully it sent in proper results). It took like 12 days of CPU time, so.....that'd suck to lose that in either respect).

I'm happy it seems to have worked out.

Hello.

I have a work unit that seems to be stuck. On my boinc client it says it's 100% done, but when I look at the graphics it says: 1,037,232 of 1,039,392 99.79% done. I recently had 2 other WUs that I was deep into crater when I unplugged my computer (long story)......but man, I'd hate for both me and this project to lose this WU that's virtually 100% done. And it seems to be froze. Can anybody help me so we don't lose this WU?

Please join me at the team named: Occupy

Members of the global movement of Occupy or Occupy Wall Street, this is your team.

You can check out what I like to do at:

http://stats.free-dc.org/stats.php?page=teambycpid&team=Occupy

But really - I think doing any projects for the team would be great. I'd like to have team challenges, but the team is pretty small right now. If we can get a legit team together I'd like to do that. I hadn't really found a team that was "me" - so I created this one. Hopefully, it's a concept that speaks to you as well.

I'd like to change my resource share on this project.

However, when I go to where it'd make sense to change the preferences, I can look at them, but not edit them in anyway.

I'm at:

http://climateapps2.oerc.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/prefs.php?subset=project

but there is no edit option. Please help.
