1) Message boards : Cafe CPDN : Old Weather Team (Message 59932)

Hello!

We are members of the Zooniverse Old Weather project.
Here our computers crunch for CPDN.
In the Zooniverse we transcribe weather and ice reports from logbooks.
Currently we are transcribing logs from US government ships and whalers in the vicinity of Alaska, Siberia, northern Canada, and Greenland.

Have a look at some logs!

It's a great community!

Hello David,
Thank you very much!
I have been running CPDN for a long time, and I know that the credits do come through eventually.
However, I have found the lack of feedback from the developers/sustainers very frustrating. Les Bayliss does a super job, but he is in a difficult position when he does not get answers.

Also, thanks to Andy working behind the scene.

At least there is evidence of work being done on this now. Not only have tasks been granted credit even though it has not made it through to credit for computers going up yet but the number of tasks I have waiting for validation has dropped significantly.

Yes. I now have credit for all my completed tasks. However, it still says: Validation pending (88)

It would be nice to have an update from Oxford however saying what has been done and what is remaining to be done.

Exactly! I have been crunching for many years and this is hardly the first time there were problems. I have always gotten my credits in the end, but I find the near total lack of feedback very annoying. Someone should be able to take 10 minutes out of their week to give a brief update.

Many thanks to you and the other forum regulars for keeping us updated and answering questions!

The "do not detach and reattach" advice came too late for me.

Just now I reset and then removed CPDN and then I added it back.
It appears to be working correctly.

Sadly, it seems like it is still not working.
Does anyone know when it will be fixed?
Our team is sliding down the rankings

Thanks!

Hi Les,

Congratulations on your managing to keep a sense of humor when you have to field so many complaints about a situation that is in no way your fault!

And speaking of food...

Take care,

I was running and continue to run 6 CPDN tasks.
I am waiting - somewhat impatiently - for the problems to be fixed. We have had problems in the past and they were fixed, so I am confident that these will be.

If you are frustrated by the hardware problems, see: Donations at http://www.climateprediction.net/about/donations/
These could be used to assist us in purchasing new hardware or upgrading or maintaining our current servers. For example, disks and power supplies are required from time to time as these components fail and we have a continuing need to expand our storage facilities to hold the data that are being continuously generated by participants.

Dave,
I just tried creating new thread (in the Number crunching board) and I see the same thing:

I continue to crunch for the Old Weather team knowing that I will get the "lost" credits back soon.

My system is currently running:
2 CPDN tasks,
1 WCG task, and
1 yoyo task.

My resources for those projects are:
CPDN 42%
WCG 10%
yoyo 6%

The problem with exporting credits is really hurting our team rankings (the Old Weather team is from a Zooniverse weather data transcribing project, but we will keep crunching.

I came to see if there was any info on the problem. When I saw a post mentioning eu vs. pnw models, I went to verify that mine were eu.

6 of 7 have now uploaded!

Thanks to everyone who worked on solving the problem and responding to our questions!

I just got an update from my friend:

Doh! I looked up my BT service and I'd got things wrapped right round my neck. The download speed is up to 16Mb, the download total is 10GB and I'd be happy to pump that up to 40GB...that sounds more like it doesn't it?

How does this look?

Thanks

A friend is interested in running CPDN, but she has limited broadband (10MB downloads per month). Will that be a problem? She normally use scarcely 2MB per month.

Thanks
