There are so many acronyms in your posting that it means little to me, but I think it means that there is no chance that WCG will be used for climate prediction. This is unfortunate, as besides my machine there are 270 thousand machines in WCG but I am confident that there are other projects in the pipeline where people have the vision to see the benefits. |

Posted 21 Feb 2006 by old_user34803 Post: I used to do climateprediction on BOINC, but I found that it was so unreliable and frustrating that I moved to WCG, which is sponsored by IBM and run professionally by United Devices. Recently WCG has begun to run BOINC projects as well. The first project we ran was the Human Proteome Folding project, which is finished for the time being and which was completed in twelve months with countless thousands of computer years. Presently there are many thousand computers working on Aids research. I am informed that climate prediction would meet the objectives of WCG and suggest that somebody in the project team should investigate and maybe submit a project proposal so that I could come back!!! |

Posted 16 Feb 2005 by old_user34803 Post: I've been a member for about ten weeks and in that time have had two jobs fail with computation errors after hundreds of hours of compute time on this machine which takes just over two hours to process a seti@home case. I have to assume that the failure arises from a bug in the software, as it is usually an addressing problem. When this happens does this mean that all the work is useless? Robert |
