1) Questions and Answers : Windows : part 2: has my program crashed? (Message 21923)
Posted 6 Apr 2006 by old_user2467
Post:
despite these messages it is still saying the model is complete and so isn\'t crunching

Did you set the project to download \'No New Work\' or did you suspended the project itself? What is the \'Status\' collumn at the \'Project\' tab saying for the project? Did a manual update command for the project change anything?

But you can also log-in using your account key. But though it should work with your password.
3) Questions and Answers : Windows : Computational error message (Message 20999)

Your model chrashed by itself. Your machine should have already downloaded another work unit. If it hasn\'t so push the \'Update\' button in the projects screen and read the messages that are in the messages screen along your update. May be you have network activity at all or with the project suspended? If you use a dial up connection, you have to connect before pushing the update button.

But the real reson of the crash of your first result is unknown. But you may exclude the experiment from sheduled and auto-protect virus scans as some virus scanners are locking the files they are scanning. But the experiment doesn\'t like it if its files are locked by another application. Maybe updating the driver of your graphics card may help. It might work, but must not.

No, sorry. Its not possible to merge two accounts. You may let one account orphaned and limit your usage to the other.
5) Questions and Answers : Wish list : Processor specific optimization? (Message 20103)
Posted 10 Feb 2006 by old_user2467
Post:
I hope optimisation for AMD processors happen soon! For seti@home my Athlon X2 3800+ got half the processing time for a WU when I downloaded optimised code. Crippling AMD chips this way is really not the way to get forwards!

If you are running sulphur models on your Athlon boxes, so have a look at this thread in the php-BB Message board:
http://www.climateprediction.net/board/viewtopic.php?p=32954#32954

Ananas has patched the sulphur executables so that for the sulphur executables on AMD boxes the SSE2 optimitions are available too.
6) Questions and Answers : Preferences : cellphone status not working (Message 20102)

The link is working for me. The php.file is generating a xml-file with the latest result and credit informations available. To view this file on your pc and not your cell phone you have to save and open or open directly the downloaded file (depends on your browser) by editor ie. notepad or something else.

Heared about dynamic DNS services like http://dyn.dns.org?

I would recommend you to shut down BOINC or at least suspend computation while gaming!

11) Message boards : climateprediction.net Science : IS CPDN net site down? (Message 19839)
Posted 1 Feb 2006 by old_user2467
Post:
Hmm... that you can\'t reach the http://climateprediction.net site is odd.

But maybe there is a solution to attach your other host to CPDN in a roundabout:

1. On the host that is already attached at CPDN navigate to the directory where you have installed BOINC in (usually C:\\Program Files\\BOINC\\).

2. Look for a file named: \'account_climateprediction.net.xml\'.

3. Copy this file to a removeable drive or a CDR.

4. On the host that you want to attach to CPDN exit BOINC and navigate to the directory where you have installed BOINC in.

5. Copy the file named \'account_climateprediction.net.xml\' from your removeable drive or CDR to the BOINC directory of this machine and make sure it isn\'t write protected after you have copied it.

6. Start BOINC again on this machine.

If you are lucky you\'re now attached to CPDN at this machine.

Stupid question... But have you checked your spam filter? Maybe the email with your activation information was intercepted by it?

Chris,

I am pleased to see that you have the same minds like me. But I am also sceptical that there will be enough useres that show an interest to support the work on this project otherwise than through their computational power.

Some month ago the same minds were brought up in the Community Forum (look here), but there wasn\'t any further interest to discuss on this earnestly.

I am getting more and more the feeling that people are willing to donate only things that either spend them private benefit or that calm down their twinges of conscience or because they are emotional displeased. Only a few peoples (mainly those that are active on these boards) will be willing to donate of their own.

Just my 2ct.

18) Questions and Answers : Windows : sulfur model lags my computer (Message 19658)
Posted 25 Jan 2006 by old_user2467
Post:
Well, 256MB memory is really not too much running WinXP! It is working but Windows has to permanently swap memory to you hard drive. If you are runing climatprediction besides some other applications, so the free memory is even more battled. CP.net applications are using about 50MB of your spare memory.

As the permanently swaping is fragmenting your hard drive very fast, you should defrag your hard drive in any case. If you can afford some more RAM you should buy and install it without hesitation! Its worth the money!

Hi Steve!

You have definite two accounts at climateprediction.net! The one you have posted from is empty. But your other account is showing your computers, especially your Intel Pentium 4 box with 2.80GHz and your sulphur runs.

Searching for users called \'SteveBB\' cp.net gives these results:
http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/user_search_action.php?search_string=stevebb

So have a look yourselfe!
