1) Message boards : Number crunching : Lost credits (Message 37782)

Post:

Individuals that were basically inactive lost no credits at all (but were still awarded the 5% compensation).

As one of the above this applies to me.
Also this means that a UK Met Office HADAM3P has not been crunched on this account.
As some newer members appear to be the bigger losers ,just wondered if there was a connection .
Cheers
Chris.

Hi Metalius
Assuming that the issue is with HADSM3 Mid-Holocene WUs
The graphics will show if tasks are suspended/exit Boinc/restart Boinc/restart tasks.
This works on Boinc 5.10.45 .
This does unfortunately have to be done each time the computer is rebooted.
The trick is trying to suspend task activity without losing too much progress,
on your other projects or not rebooting the computer too often.
Good luck
Chris.
edit Les beat me to it..

Anyone else getting a really good credit ratio on the new HADSM3MH models? My CPU is Intel Core2 Duo. How much of a difference could that be making?

Hi
Yes also on a Core2 duo I find the same.
The Hadam trickles bang on every 3 hours =24 points an hour
The Hadsm3mh about every 3.5 hours =26.5 points an hour
Not exactly milky way or FreeHal stuff :) but a nice little bonus.
especially when Compared to work done on WCG =14.5 an hour.
That credit system though is based on benchmarks by someone with very short arms and deep pockets who also may have had a hand in designing the ducks backside. But great science. :)

Hi mo.v
Sorry for the late reply, have been away .
Yes it is all the same computer, no overclocking (Don\'t know how!)
Had another hadam crash back in Jan it carried the same error code.
Also the temp.graph was the same hovering around 0C. in the last couple of months befor the crash.Intrestingly both Workunits have lost their graphs over the last few days it is now not possible to access \'Run Info\' \'time series\' on either.
Although a lot more stable than the slabs the hadam\'s appear to have their issues.

Hi mo.v
Counting back messages it only looped five times before crashing.
As these were only 10 mins apart less than an hour lost,so no problem there.
All the others crunching the unit are also Intel based so the only thing it may prove (assuming each unit is the same) is my computer is on the way out!
Cheers
Chris.

Hi
This WU Is looping, not something expected from a \"hadam\" job!
It crunches from 72.855% to72.93% over and over .
The checkpoints are 143 and 100 each time it reverts the globe turns blue and it trickles the date on the model is 24/12/2000.
Have tried restarting Boinc ,pausing etc to no avail.
Do not have an amd computer to try it on so think it will have to be aborted.
That would be a shame, it is the only work unit I have participated in where none of the crunchers have crashed. It was going along very nicely.
Chris.
Edit. It just killed itself :(

Since coming back on line trickles are now not appearing on the account pages.
Just wondering if this is by design or accident.

I\'ve just noticed that I\'m received 7,061 credits on this site since my previous message.
This should get transferred to stats sites in the next 10 hours or so.

The knock on effect is \'climateapps3\' is down.
Personally, have 2050 zip now bouncing around.
Chris.
Edit. Up and running again;)

Recently had to abort this ice ball.Poor thing had been going less than 48hours.
It was (I thought) happily crunching away running at 1.30 t/s and reporting every 4 hours but after 10 trickles it turned blue and 7 hours later had only completed 6000 of the 10.800 timesteps needed for the next trickle the T/S was up to 1.39 by then.Suspended at 144 on the countdown [to reboot Boinc, worth a try!]it fell back to the previous checkpoint knocking off .02% off the progress meter and the T/S fell back to 1.33.So a rapid time increase in the last countdown.
Crashed a slab over at beta a while ago also suspending at144 countdown (to take a backup) immediately after restart it crashed ,as expected, did the backup.
So now always treat the start of any countdown 1 below eg 143 for a slab and no problems with work loss or crashes since.
Had 2 out of 11 Ice ball, the first wu was completed successfully by another user running an AMD machine and the last is being run by another intel user so interested in how they get on.
17) Questions and Answers : Windows : Error on file upload (Message 32932)

Hi Christine
There is an issue with the severs and some zip uploads at the moment.
More about this Here This will be sorted out,not a problem your end.
The slab model goes through 3 phases 33.33%,66.66% yours has just hit the final phase .As you noted the time steps restart at the beginning of each phase
which is normal, can be seen in your Trickles.
So no need for the backup yet everything normal just a short wait for server maintenance.
Well done on the backups though and a big welcome to the forums;)

Hi
some pics of the graphic changes you may see as the model goes through the phases (33.333% and 66.666 %) Here .Easily corrected by suspending/the model/s exiting Boinc Then restart.

Hi Mo
Not universally known but there are three things in life that are certainties:
Death,Taxes and CPDN server problems.
Tis all part of the joys of crunching whether its end of model zip files bouncing around for a week or so or Killer 99 trickles. Thanks to the endeavors of those running the project, soon, all is well again.
But that was not my point.
I don\'t think it is over the top to say your devotion, the time, the effort you must spend helping others truly makes you one of the main assets of the project.[/brown nosing]
But that was not my point.
Yes credits and stat pages are fun, but with my meager resources and choices of projects (two of which are not the best sources of credit and I don\'t mean this one)excludes me from any race.
But that was not my point.
The point I was making in a thread titled \"Trickles not showing\" Was just that.
It was thought at the time the servers were up and running OK but just noticed
they were not.
But could I get this point across?could I heck.
Then out of the dark clouds came a shaft of light in the shape of Pooh Bear, and all became clear;)
Taken that it is very busy behind the scenes, still it only takes seconds to communicate, perhaps some encouragement can be given to those that turn off one of the processes to relay the info someway.
Thanks.
Chris.

Hi thanks for the info Pooh Bear.
If the situation is still ongoing everything falls into place.
The reason of my origional post was the quote from the news thread,

Many of you will have noticed Monday\'s CPDN server outage. Tolu worked all Monday and a good part of the night on unscheduled server maintenance, mostly moving large volumes of data. All the CPDN servers are again fully functional.

which clearly is not the case.
But why was this, if known, not reported earlier!
Thanks again
