Well, here I am folks. Just finished my last Beeb model, updated Boinc and got myself a shiny new one from CPDN :)

My graphics window still has the BBC logo(?).

Hey hi Guys,

I believe in this project, I really do. I think Global Warming is the #1 threat to civilisation.

Therefore I\'m really disappointed with the result of all the time I have spent crunching for CPDN. The model I had been working on since last year failed with an error a few days ago. It was only 20% done but I had just built a new PC which was going faster so the failure was a bit gutting.

Here is the \'result\' including the error message:

http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/result.php?resultid=5695358

Another user told me on the Seti board that my work will not be wasted. Can anyone confirm this is the case? It will make me feel a little better.

Also, is there any other way of contributing to the project that doesn\'t take months of processing? My PC is not on 24/7 so I need shorter work.

I really want a way to help this project.

Can understand how frustrated you feel but please don\'t give up, the first few years are important. I\'m sure that soon someone much more knowledgeable than me will be along to chat to you:)I\'ve had a number of models crash over in the Beeb CCE and it\'s disappointing but you kind of get used to it and keep rooting for the ones that look like making the finish line:)

A team mate of mine ( The Greenies - that\'s us) has started a shorter model on
the World Community Grid. There\'s a lot of talk about shorter models over here
but from what I\'ve seen there\'s nothing definite yet....

Hang in there and good luck.

Have authorities been contacted?
Will Wate be charged? Prosecuted? Persecuted?
Will he plead insanity and an all consuming lust for credits he just could not control?
Will he plead he is just a philanthropy facilitator harvesting unused CPU cycles out there in the wild and putting them to good use?
Who will be the first to identify and offer counselling for BOINC Credit Whore Syndrome?
My RAC sucks. Can I get a copy of his trojan?

He He !!! You must be joking:) .. yeah I\'d like some more RAC too( for
my Team - The Greenies..but not this way)

Oh dear, I always seem to be getting myself into trouble with the mods - last time it was because I seemed to be suggesting they were \"odd\" (not what I meant at all of course! LOL)

This time I absolutely didn\'t intend to complain about mods being users of the week - you\'re all users of the century so far as I\'m concerned, I think you\'re wonderful!

HEHE!!

Let\'s just celebrate longevity and persistance:)

Totally agree, Chrissy, I\'m no \"techie\" either - not only do I remember very well what it felt like to ask a question and not understand the reply but also it still happens to me! The only difference now is that I\'m no longer too embarrassed to ask for a simpler answer!

Absolutely MM.. think we\'re both in the same little

The project was new to boinc then. (BOINC was new then!) Overall, we were participants in the \"Classic\" CPDN Project and some of us ran the CPDNboinc Alpha & Beta tests. Nothing sinister, we were simply around for awhile...

Nothing wrong with that .. seniority should be recognised as long
as it\'s deserved, which it obviously is in this case:)

Just to second MM\'s post. I\'m also a \"newbie\". Chrissy
If you\'ve got this far you can\'t be fairly described as a Newbie. You might even be veering dangerously close to techie-hood!

My point about newbies was that, BBC with it\'s implicit \"no one else has has ever done anything like this before\" stance and keeping everyone in the dark about the tradition that went before, hasn\'t exactly made it easy for people to keep going.

The vast majority haven\'t kept going & won\'t survive to become seasoned Boincers: but for those that have, welcome to the club.
Hi Mega ( what else can I call you - sounds a bit risque..)

Just to put the record straight my entire team and most of the BBC
board readers will tell you I am the eipitomy of \"untechy\" - how I ever finished a model is just pure luck:) Even got some into the 60\'s and 70\'s before crashing:(

Agree with you that BBC has put this all in the limelight and that the credit
is with the trailblazers - BOINC et al. Maybe they need to up their profile and do a bit more PR for the cause.

What motivated me to start was my overriding concern for those on the planet
who have no voice at all - the mammals, reptiles et al who have done nothing
to cause this situation. I realise also that many people are in the same position. If this sounds simplistic it\'s a post and I\'m not big on diatribes.

Look forward to crunching with \"The Greenies\" in CPDN

GO GREENIES GO!!!

Chrissy.. I come in peace from BBC CCE :)

I\'m getting a little tired of \"techies\" being scathing about the staying power of BBC newbies, of whom I\'m one, and I know of lots of others who have done and are doing good work, not only in crunching themselves but also in encouraging and helping others for whom much of the techno-speak in the various message boards is double-Dutch.

Best wishes,
Hi All,

Just to second MM\'s post. I\'m also a \"newbie\". With a couple
of exceptions all \"The Greenies\" ( from Team Greenpeace in BBC CCE)
are newbies. Also, with a couple of likely exceptions, we\'re all coming
over here with some of us already crunching CPDN models. This applies to
many of the \"BBC\" teams. So I would say it\'s a win win situation all round.

The fact that the program was a bit of a bummer ( can I say that??)
with regard to credit to all the crunchers, not to mention not getting
down to some more serious climate change issues ( we hope more programs follow)
it hasn\'t taken the wind out of the \"newbie\" sails.

Let\'s be honest it\'s brought many to DC who previously just didn\'t know it existed and would have probably thought it all too techy to attempt.

Once you have synchronised the CPIDs, wait 24 hours or so and hopefully things will start to appear. You\'ll also notice external stats sites such as BoincStats or teams use the same mechanism to synchronise.

Thanks Mike.

Chris..help!!!

Hey.. where are we???? I\'ve been restricting my posts pretty
much to Greenies Migration thread Haraldo set up, and have wandered
around many threads ( seen Haraldos\' comet piccies) and bumped into
Greenies here and there. Had a trip over to the team Scotland thread
with Marj and Lizzy ( interesting kilt videos...).

Now just saw Haraldos\' post so clicked on it and ended up here,
wherever that is..life is a learning process:)

Chrissy

edit: Have got my beeb avatar here as opposed to humpy on the \"other\"
message board????? And yes this looks and acts like the beeb boards..

LIGHT is dawning this is the CRUNCHERS forum Haraldo was talking about
in TGP 21....so many forums..
