Hello fellow Boinc.be and former BMF Teammates,

Currently there\'s a poll on our Boinc.be website (www.boinc.be) at the \'Global team\'-section.
It\'s object is to vote at which project Boinc.be\' s special operations team (B.A.T.) and the new B.M.F.-subteam will race against eachother. CPDN is also nominated and all supportive votes will help getting it elected. Remember both special op\'s teams produce each a major rac-output thus the project that gets elected will enjoy a major rac-credits increase.
So please take a look at www.boinc.be check out the new forum, register if you haven\'t done so before, so you too can vote for CPDN as the N°1 favored project at Boinc.be
Hope to see you soon at www.boinc.be,
Jorg

Beste Boinc.be en BMF vrienden,

Boinc.be forum,
Jorg

Hi, if I understood you right you might want to check your preferences-settings, especialy those who configure the amount of cpu-time (%) you give to each seperate prog and the update using the update-button of boinc-manager..

Hope to have helped, greetz

Hi,
You haven\'t told how you open the webpage of CP.net, do you use your browser directly or the Boinc-manager to do this? I only use the latter (the \'your account\' button on the left plane of the boinc-manager) and this seems to be working fine.. My firefox-browser then opens the CP.net mainpage with the purple-colon on the left in witch there\'s a link \'your account\'.. I don\'t know if thats the same procedure you use or not, or even if it has anything to do with your problem but I hope this info can help you out..

Good luck

I see something has changed \'cause a piece of an other jpeg did upload although the preview repeated the former pic, so I guess it\'s a bug with the \'avatar preview\' setting.. Anyway it doesn\'t matter so don\'t bother, just ignore me for the time being, I\'ll figure it out..

Hi Tolu, Les, Mike, Astro, Pooh and all others..

I\'ve got another question/prob, but this time I did my best to search the Faq pages and forumthreads first. I haven\'t found anything regarding the \'missing or bad parameter: avatar_select\' error which occurs everytime I try to reset my \'message board preferences\' settings and change the (lousy) avatar I\'ve uploaded at first config. (I\'d like to change it for a lightweight Jpeg 3.6kb logo of my BOINC.BE team instead) and therefor made this post..
However this is NOT a critical issue to me and I understand if you people have more important prob\'s to deal with at this moment, but if anyone has an \'out-of-the-box\' idea about what I might have done wrong or feels like telling what could be the solution it would be greatly appreciated..

Friendly greetings.

Hi Wschwab,

I\'m (also) very new here and already succeeded to bug the hell out of these moderators with annoyingly noobish questions too, but don\'t let that stop you \'cause it\'s the fun way to learn.. Especially with Les and the booze helping out :-)
I take his advise seriously and also do back-ups now an then, read his thread on this if you like: http://bbc.cpdn.org/forum_thread.php?id=1952#8299 (mind to suspend the Project and not the individual Tasks.. been there done that, not funny..)
I had the same reaction you had regarding the CPU usage and also tried to tune it down when not in screen-saver-mode, this is possible by using a process-manager prog called Threadmaster and some registry-tweaks but you really don\'t need it, Les\'s is absolutely right about the \'low\'process priority of CP app\'s and thus it\'s best to let it run at 100% all the time+ blank the screen-saver (you can watch \'show graphics to see the globe) On the left pane, under your name it says \'Joined Nov22, 2005\' so you\'re not really a new-comer then or what?

I tried a first time back-up, few minutes ago, armed with the opened thread of Les on \'how to back-up\' http://bbc.cpdn.org/forum_thread.php?id=1952#8299
There\'s nothing wrong with this thread, the problem is I didn\'t even get that far.. The moment I suspended both hadcm3lbmyadayadablabla files 2 new-ones appeared!
No panic yet, just also suspend those 2... Again 2 new hadcm3lbmyadayada-files !! Nobody said anything about this happening.. I quickly rerun the first four but now they\'re stuck on \'preempted\' for whatever that means... Sweat is running down my forehead, my belly is ackin, what to do now? Try suspending again? Ignore this ever happened and just leave it be? I stare at the heavens as strange questions penetrate my empty mind.. Must I use the \'reset project button\'?
I\'m guessing I shouldn\'t have suspended the individual tasks but directly the entire Boinc project, something I discovered only after.. I made a back-up now but does \'preempted\' mean I\'ve messed up these tasks?

Can some-one help me out please, it would be much much appreciated+ helping poor dumb newbie-noobs like me does grant you a big bonus regarding your general influence, respect and aura on forums like these :-)

THANK YOU

OK thanks for the advice, I really appreciate the replies and the links to other threads about back-up did persuade me to give this a try (Les Bayliss\'s tutorial really is great, thanks M8).. The more threads I read the more obvious it becomes to me CP is more of a \'professional\' science prog then, let\'s say seti (thanks for not kicking me out for my comments on seti by-the-way..looks some people here spend a lot of cpu-time on it..but I still think it\'s useless) and therefore is a bit more difficult to use wich apparently is to much for some.. But no problem for me, count me in to stick around for quit some time anyway..

Friendly greetings to all

Hi I\'m new here but I must agree it\'s better to simply turn-off the screensaver and only look at the \'show graphic\'s tool when feeling like having a view of the progress (it does provide some handy info on the #sec/Timestep-speed and, more importantly it also show\'s the model\'s date&time so you can see when you\'re nearing the end of the year and following trickle-time, if I\'m not mistaking) the cpu-time used for running the screensaver is way more then most people expect, try running a cpu speed-performance graph (open \'Administrative Tools\' via the Start menu, open the \'Performance\'-tool, it shows a system monitor that\'s writing a graph of several counters, let it run on the background while your scr.saver is running) you\'ll be amazed.
But for those who still want to see that ball turning so they can amaze bypassers and gloat about the Boinc-prog AND their high creditslevel ofcourse but who also dislike the grey textmenu and don\'t know how to turn it off... It\'s very simple, the shortcut key\'s like ctrl-Z are only designed for the \'show graphic\'s\'-tool ofcourse (you can\'t manipulate a screensaver when it\'s active fool:-)but when you do use them there, the screensaver will have the same setting as your latest alteration you\'ve used on \'show graphic\'s\' next time it loads.. Try it, open Boinc manager, change the \'show graph\' layout for exaple ctrl-Z+ctrl-W, close the shit and wait.. When your scr.saver loads it should have those new settings enabled (mine does when I use this modus operandi) but I have noticed it does change back to default (user prefered) setting after boinc was networkactive in the background, I guess that\'s also logic.. But it is possible to tweak these parameters and settings to fit your preferences with a bit of patience and trial&error.. Just don\'t complain about the screensaver not doing what you want it to do and CP being such a lousy piece of crap prog when the real problem is you simply don\'t know how to use it right ;-)

Another thing Pooh Bear 27,

I\'ve just read a thread you started about trickles.. There where a lot of a tat agressive and disgrunted reactions of some people posted about missing trickles on Cp.net and also some very bad criticism about it\'s disfunctionning in general.. As I\'m new here and am dedicating my full boinc cpu time for 100% to cp.net only, I wonder if that was a good choice? Maybe those people where being just a bit to impatient, I don\'t know. CP seems a nice project to me and I find it more usefull then for example Seti (which I always disliked as it only anylises an infinate small portion of the univers which, in my view, makes it useless) so I would hate to drop it now because some \'bad press\' tells me its crap..
What are your experiences with CP thusfar if I may ask?

friendly greetings

In order to clarify and for those who do want to run Boinc at a lower speed then 100%..
You can download the free process-managing app \'Threadmaster\' here.. Unfortunatly it only has a registryfile for SETI@home process but you can enter the active .exe process names of the CP app\'s boinc is running (wich you can find in \'processes\' of Taskmanager)--- (ctrl-alt-del if you are a noob like me).. Then you give this registrykey the dwordvalue wich equals the process amount you wich it to have at max. This system worked for me (after reboor ofcourse) but I\'ve now allocated the full 100% to boinc as I now understand the implication of the \'low\'priority settings CP \'s app\'s have (I read this in another thread and it makes perfectly good sence to me now \'cause it\'s true that processes with a higher priority setting will always \'subdue\' those with a low-priority when needed) except when your system is loading up, that\'s when Threadmaster still comes in handy for me as it still delay\'s processes when starting-up according to their process-priority, in order to avoid a system crash.. I maybe wrong but before I ran Threadmaster my system crashed at every boot unless I configured my Codestuff Starter app to only start-up boinc.. If I tried to also start-up Bitdefender, Bitcomet, ISP-controller and other app\'s I like to start-up at boot, the system crashed.. This clearly indicated to me that boinc does hogg all the processpriority when booting even if it has a \'low\'priority setting.. Maybe Taskmanager doesn\'t recognise processpriority settings till after full load.. Anyhow with Threadmaster enabled the problem has vanished and I can now boot with all my prog\'s loading at startup and boinc at 100%

The CPU % is not currently working in the public released versions of BOINC, so it will still run approximately 100% until the next version of BOINC comes out. They are testing this with the Beta test applications, currently.

Eurh Yep.. but as I mentioned earlier I use Threadmaster and enterred the hadcmyadaya515.. app\'s in the Treadmasters parameters with regedit so each app can not use more than the 50% I gave it (changed setting to 100% cpu time now)
But another question if I may, is it feaseble to change the process priority for each or a single cp app from \'low\' to \'below normal\'? Would that grant a bit more cpu-priority to boinc without hogging the entire system or doesn\'t that make a difference?
