The latest version of BOINC, 5.4.9, is supposed to have a fix. Available here.
A 5.* version is also need for the latest models, which is why yours are crashing on download.

Version 4.19 must be uninstalled first, as there was a major change at version 4.2* which will leave you with split versions if you don\'t.

Will upgrading to the newest version create a new computer ID?

This is just one of several different kinds.

I lost one a few days ago. It made it as far as it's<a href="http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/trickle.php?resultid=454106"> 59th trickle</a> (t/s 118822 ph3) and started completely over at the begining. After 5 days it finally gave up and got a new WU.

A few days ago another WU (257473) went belly up just after the third trickle of phase 3. Tonight I noticed a hugh jump again in <a href="http://macg.no-ip.info:5520/boinc/tgraphs.php?proj=cpdn&amp;teamid=1208">RAC and Total Credit</a>. I've noticed similar jumps with a few other crunchers also. It makes the stats look good but offers no incentive to complete and turn in a valid WU.I figure about 4 or 5 more of these bad WUs and I'll be in the top 5 or 10.

Is this extra credit normal even though the WU did not finish?

&gt; yeah... something still isn't right IMHO. Look at <a> href="http://macg.no-ip.info:5520/boinc/team_hist_graphs.php?proj=cpdn&amp;teamid=45&amp;pmode=r"&gt;this
&gt; graph</a> on my stats site. You can clearly see several big jumps when people
&gt; return work units. If the credit that is granted along the way doesn't match
&gt; up to the final claimed credit, I could see some adjustment going on when you
&gt; finish but this seems a bit extreme.

Mine shows a very good example for the bad <a href="http://macg.no-ip.info:5520/boinc/team_hist_graphs.php?proj=cpdn&amp;teamid=1122&amp;pmode=r"> RAC</a>, as does this <a href="http://macg.no-ip.info:5520/boinc/team_hist_graphs.php?proj=cpdn&amp;teamid=1122&amp;pmode=dp"> graph</a> for Daily Prod.

I normally average about 600 credits a day and it jumped to almost 4800. This was a day after I had 2 boxes puke and lost the WUs and each started over with new WUs.

&gt; A thought on the 13-megs/instance: Let me think about how to handle multiple
&gt; BOINCs....maybe have a file that contains all the BOINC dirs and build forms
&gt; on the fly for each of 'em ...

Maybe handling networking or multiple instances efficiently would probably be a better way to go at first then a having panel applet. The muti-computer handling capability would probably benefit more users.

Looks like you may need to go with a config file approach to ease version changes and adding/deleting Boinc dirs.

I don't know anything about programming but I thought I would throw somes ideas into the wind and see where they land. ;-)

&gt; &gt; I've noticed the version (1.3) on boink.dk is a different version (1.0)
&gt; from
&gt; &gt; the one on your site. Which is correct?
&gt;
&gt; The archive on my web site is correct. I think that the BOINC Network guys are
&gt; having some trouble at the moment. As soon as they're up reliably, I'll check

hmmm... maybe I should offer some mirror space to them.

&gt; the entry and make sure that it is as it should be. In any case, 1.0 will be
&gt; replaced as soon as I can figure out this KDE Panel applet business.
&gt;
&gt; If you'd like an interim version that handles window naming while I fight with
&gt; the panel applet issue, that wouldn't be a problem.

That would be great! Although half of my boxes are off-line for awhile and of the remaining, 2 are not running any boinc projects, so having an interim version to handle window names isn't a big deal to me right now. I hope I didn't stir up a hornet's nest for you with the panel applet request. :)

&gt; In case anybody is interested, I've made BOINCprog available for download on

I've noticed the version (1.3) on boink.dk is a different version (1.0) from the one on your site. Which is correct? I can't get to the boink.dk site to verify for myself. When I try to download from boink.dk (using the download link on the add-on page) all I get is "download.php" and a blank page when accessing the boink.dk site.

&gt; &gt; Just downloaded your app, works great on my SuSe 9.1 Pro. This is the
&gt; first
&gt; &gt; BOINC add-on app that I have been able to get running. I am looking
&gt; forward to
&gt; &gt; seeing new versions come out.
&gt;
&gt; Hey, thanks for the positive news. I'm developing on a mostly-stock Slackware
&gt; 10.0 box and this is my first Kylix deployment. I was a bit nervous about
&gt; releasing it to the wild.
&gt;

Let me know if you need someone to help flush out bugs.

&gt; &gt; I set up my BOINC apps on my different PCs on NFS so I can see the
&gt; progress of
&gt; &gt; all from just one desktop with multiple instances running of your app.
&gt; One
&gt;
&gt; Aha.
&gt;

Each instance uses about 13 megs of ram, so I don't want to run too many at one time.

&gt; &gt; thing that would be nice is for your app to live on the system tray, kind
&gt; of
&gt; &gt; like the "Ksetiwatch" app. Also being able to set the window name from
&gt; within
&gt; &gt; the "startboincprog" file would help when more than one instance is
&gt; running.
&gt;
&gt; It's not a problem at all for me to enable setting the window name. As for the
&gt; KDE Panel, let me look into it. It comes to mind that for your use, a useful
&gt; Panel tooltip would show the window name, URL, % and hours on 2 or 3 lines.
&gt; Click on the Panel icon to open the existing main window. Right-click and you
&gt; get a pop-up menu that offers Restore and Exit.
&gt;
&gt; That sound like what you had in mind?
&gt;

Exactly!
