RAC gone from 0.94 to 3292 and some trickles have got through. Number of PCs with Recent Average Credit has gone up. I still have both my PCs with a tail of zip files to upload. The Server status also is positive: Users With credit 305,882 With recent credit 4,382 Registered in past 24 hours 9 Computers With credit 654,060 With recent credit 5,415 Registered in past 24 hours 43 Current GigaFLOPS 29,475.86

One has had 2 days worth of credits now and the other (seems) not have produced any trickles yet. The question is this: Under number of members (With AND without credit) it still says that there is only 1 member, although under Active Members (Have Gotten Credit) there are two people. Under number of members with and without credit I would expect there to be a 3. (I have checked that they are all three there by looking up their e.mails). Just a bit puzzled: anyone else had this problem? I've got two machines finished today! Both running virtually 24/7! I think I might just take the plunge and update to 4.09 and leave it at that for the moment ;-) Better safe than sorry, as I am not sure I am able to problem solve that competently... Ciao...

(Message 2858) Posted 3 Sep 2004 by The Real Weasle Post: I have a an ASDL connection that I usually leave off. Why run the risk of something bad when you are not using the PC? My question is this: By default when started BOINC enables Network Access. If I leave BOINC running with Network access enabled and no internet connection the next time BOINC reaches a timestep it locks up. It tells me that it wants to connect and that it will try and connect again in x minutes etc. The problem is that BOINC ceases to run and to get it working again I have to turn the PC off and back on. It makes no difference if I connect to the internet and force a connection via the update function. Is this normal? Does this mean that I have to manually disable BOINC network access and enable it when I want to communicate to the server? Are ALL dialup users following this proceedure? It seems a bit of a nuiscance! Thanks for any advice or ways round this. Ideally I would want it to keep processing even when it reaches a timestep, just keep running if it cannot connect and then when I DO connect manually let it send in the latest timestep... Or am I barking mad??? :-) TRW

The trickle time depends on your PC and yours is quick... My AMD 1800+ on 24/7 (24 hours / 7 days a week) without much other use trickles once every 15 hours or so... :-) TRW PS: I actually created a little MS-Excel spreadsheet to help me forecast when the next trickle would occur. It seems to be fairly accurate.

I also have this problem... in addition my GUI locked up and stopped progressing when I reached a trickle, while waiting to comunicate with the servers. It did not continue 'crunching' even though the status under the work tab was 'running' the CPU time was not progressing at all. I connected up and tried 'update' (right-click under the projects tab) and that sent in the trickle and I think solved the issue. I have now disabled Boinc network access and I will wait and see if that solves it. Certainly a mention should be made in the installation instructions. ;-) TRW
