It now has been a month of "Project has no tasks available." I really find that hard to believe. Is there something I should do? I've reset the project probably a dozen times, but that has not led to any new task.
3) Questions and Answers : Windows : Project Says It Is Running, But... (Message 43674)

I have what is apparently a similar problem. My climateprediction task says it's running, but I doubt it. The graphics display says it's 99.79% done (7 December), but the BOINC manager says 100% and running. It isn't doing anything. I've another climateprediction task that was waiting to run, so I switched to that one, and then back, but to no avail. So I've just continued running the new task, which seems to be doing what it should. Shall I abort the finished or nearly-finished task?

DON\'T use the suspend in the Work tab. Use the one in the menu. Also accessable by right clicking the globe (or B) icon in the bottom right corner of the screen.

If a model suddenly says 100%, then it\'s crashed.

If you have model folders with names that are NOT in the Work tab, then they can be deleted.

Thanks.

??Screen?? What screen? I don\'t have any such icon in the BOINC Manager screen.

Also, what about all the zip files? It\'s hard to tell which one belongs to what. Perhaps they are all just temp files, and can be deleted?

Hi,

Select the workunit which has done least work, and click the \'abort\' button.

It may help to click the \'no more work\' button against the project - this prevents new workunits being downloaded (until you click it again). Thus you have full control over how many workunits are on your PC.

I\'ve had a similar problem -- three new workunits downloaded before I could do anything, each time I\'ve suspended my main one in order to reboot. Thanks for reminding me to click on \"no more work\". I have clicked on \"abort\", but so far only the one (of the three) that had actually started running for a few seconds now has 100% completed. The other two, that never ran, still read 0%. I\'m not sure they are actually dead. Also, how can I recognize the files that were downloaded for these unwanted workunits, so I can delete them? They do take up quite a bit of disk space.

I am having a similar problem: I have been running a climateprediction model since 28 April. I have had 7 trickles, and my model is now in August 1927. I have no credits since I started this model. Any idea what\'s the problem?

I think your problem may be that you\'re not running the computer for long enough to reach the point at which the model\'s data is saved. So the only re-start point is at the beginning.

But the REALLY bad news is that the slab models that you have been trying to run became obsolete late last year. There is just no point in running them.

If you leave your computer running for e.g. 6 hours or more at a time, then you may be able to run the new Coupled Ocean models. But these are much longer than the slab models, (160 model years), and take several months running 24/7.

edit
And if you do want to continue, and you\'re still using a version 4.* of BOINC, you *MUST* use Windows uninstall to remove it, and then download the latest 5.* version. The new models won\'t run with 4.* versions.

Sorry, I erred in this post -- I didn\'t add my own comments before clicking \"post.\" No way to undo.

I am having, perhaps, a similar problem. I crashed a few models last week, but finally got going and have now roughly 110 hours CPU on a model. (About 4% completion.) However, there\'s no indication of this progress in my \"statistics\"-- no credit, etc. I\'m concerned that something is getting lost. I have had successful trickles, so there is communication going on.

9) Questions and Answers : Windows : How to identify which project is which (Message 22455)

I suspect that you mean \"new model\", rather than \"new project\".
However, the way to stop it is to go into the Projects tab, and click: \"No new work\"
It\'s possible that you\'ve been clicking on Suspend in the Work tab, which will result in a new model being downloaded. This is because BOINC is trying to keep the science program busy. This Suspend is intended for use by people running multiple models, either all of \'climate\', or from several different projects. e.g. SETI, Einstein, LHC, etc.
The Suspend to use to stop EVERYTHING, is the one in the menu, which is also accessable by right clicking on the B icon in the bottom right of your screen.

As Jim said, you have had several wus, (Work Units; a term used more in other projects, but which just means models. e.g. climate models), and you\'ve been aborting them. And a new model WILL pre-empt the previous one. This is how BOINC schedules multiple models. Then, at an interval set by one of your General preference options, the two models will swap over, and the other one will run for a while.

No, sorry, I meant \"new project\". I\'m certainly not well-versed in the terminology, but when the Manager display shows two lines on the page with the tab marked \"Projects\", I assume it means two projects. And both lines are labeled as climateprediction.net.

I was concerned that this re-generation of new models was going to overwhelm my computer after I went to bed last night, so I just terminated nearly everything manually. Very frustrating. Now, nothing is running, and I\'m not at all sure I want to continue.

Your acct shows all WUs have errored out except the latest one that was just downloaded....

Sorry, but I have no idea what you are saying.

As I said, I have TWO projects, one started about 10 days ago. The other keeps downloading new files. How can I stop this? It\'s like the sorcerer\'s apprentice!! Every time a new program is downloaded, it preempts my original program. I abort it, and yet another one is downloaded, ad infinitum (I hope not).

I\'ve had a climateprediction project running for more than a week. By mistake, I started up another climateprediction project. Files were downloaded, and a new program started running. I aborted it, but then yet another program started running on this (second) project. I aborted that one. I\'d like to eliminate all files associated with this extra project: how can I identify which one is the new and which the old one? Both projects are simply labeled climateprediction.net.

After rebooting my PC, my BOINC manager appears to have lost all information: it\'s completely blank. Furthermore, the main program that was running previously (over 200 hours) is no longer running; in its place, I have a program hadcm3transum_5.08_... running. Is this normal? Is there something I should do now?
