I always wondered how BOINC would deal with a dual core. Must just download to models, one for each core. I want to build a new dual core AMD soon, and keep this current PC as a pure BOINC 24/7 and also do some on the new one (power company is gonna love me)

That brings me to a paradox: If we are spending all this electricity trying to figure out how to avoid global warming, are we not just gonna CAUSE global warming??

I see in the HELP screen it says to hit 8, but when I do that it does not seem to do anything. How do I view that data?

Then I see all those points. Shure makes my graphs look odd on BAM!

I came home expecting to see very few points from my Boinc projects (I run Rosetta, CP, World Grid, Spnhenge and Linden)

Anyway I look and I notice a BIG bar on my daily credit graph. Then I notice that CP gave me just over 2000 points! At first I thought my model had died on me, but it was still fine. So how did this happen??

I dont think my current PC mobo can support any dual core. Really want to avoid doing a \"half way\" upgrade just to get by. Not in any big rush. They have a nice Visionman system on tigerdirect for less then $2000 that is pretty stock (AMD X2 something, 4GB RAM, GF8800 card.) Hope the price comes down.

Mine seems to average about 1800hrs to complete a model. What kind of speed would I see with an \"up to date PC\"? I am talking somehting like a dual core or a quad core CPU. Right now I just have an AMD 64bit 3200+ (2.2Ghz or so) and 2GB of RAM.

Ok I had backed up a few nights ago as a test but I did it wrong (I need to learn how to READ). What I did was just back up the CP folder from the Boinc folder. Did not work of course, when I tried to restore the folder as a test of the method the thing got stuck in an infinate loop of trying to communicate and gettting deferred. Finally just aborted it, cleared it out and got a fresh model to run.

NOW when I backup I copy the whole Boinc folder over to my other HD and I also burn it to a CD. Dont want to lose a model run again :)

Well thats a first for me. I have been running this model since last fall and was within 600hrs of getting done. I get home today and notice the \"time to completion\" was over 1900hrs again. And the CPU time was only like 4 hrs. I checked the log and found that at 11AM or so CDT the model had hit an \"unrecoverable error\". So now I am back to square one. Hope they got some good data.

Would backing up my CP data help avoid this??
10) Questions and Answers : Windows : Bionic worked for a day, not its giving me the \"cant connect\" error again! (Message 21411)

I dont know how long I will be doing it anyway (IF I can get it to work with some stability). I have been running Seti@Home the past day just to get a feel for my new system. I just put this new Asus mobo and AMD 64bit 3200+ CPU in. Just for some scale reference, when i started doing SAH back in 1999 (I think) it took my PC then about 30-40 DAYS to do one data unit to 100%. This rig takes about 2.5-3 HRS

One issue the app may be having is my RAM. I only have 768MB of RAM and one stick is PC2100, the other is PC2700. I guess I should be happy the machine boots at all :D

I did not upgrade my memory when I made this \"new\" system. Just swapped out the motherboard and CPU. Being on a budget sucks :)

I had to running for more than a day. This morning I noticed the PC had re-started (at least I think it did, Bionic was not running). So I go and start it back up and it gives me the \"bionic cant connect to the client\" error again. This time I can seem to get around it. The last time all I had to do was add the manager to the \"windows firewall allowed list\" then it worked. Now its not. Probably the only thing left is to un-install it and start over.

\'Select computer\' is for people with lots of computers, and to use it with the \'fill ins\', you need two extra files.

To use it with a single computer, you click OK, with the 2 fields left blank.
This will select \'localhost\', the computer you are using.
If this is successful, it will say \'Connected to localhost\' on the right hand side of the bottom blue bar of the Manager (gui).

What this means, is that the 2 parts of BOINC are talking to each other. One is the Manager, and the other is the worker, or child process.
However, this connection should happen automatically when you run boincmgr.exe

Before you try to attach your computer, go to your account page and create a password. Remember this password!

To get to the Oxford site, you use \'Attach to project\', under Projects in the menu. The url is http://climateprediction.net, which you should have received in an email.
The password is the one that you\'ve just created.

You should now be in business. If not, ask again.

Ok I got it to work, my WinXP firewall was not allowing the Bionic app to communicate. Once I set that up it worked.

It wont let me select a project. When I try that it tells me \"Bionic is not connected to the client.\" All I did was download the Bionic app and install it, after making an account. Just does not seem to want to work and the help in the program is pretty much useless for that issue.

I just installed the program. I have it set NOT to startup when I turn on my PC. The \"select computer...\" thing has nothing to choose. I put in \"localhost\" but that did not work. I have tried with my firewall off as well, still no dice.

Guess what I need is info on how the heck I get started, have not really been able to find anyone having my issues.
