Welcome to the second Team Recruiting Thread. All are invited to post info about your team, attract new members, engage in some friendly rivalry, and just plain have fun.

This thread will be respawned when it reaches 100 total posts, as an aid to navigation and for dial-up users. As such, please consider limiting the number and size of images in your posts or turning off the ability to load and view them.

This thread is a continuation of the first Team Recruiting Thread.

Please keep it clean and pleasant, and enjoy!

After Herculean effort, B.C. BOINC has finally cracked the top ten percent! In fact, our total credit ranks in the top five thousand! But don\'t take our word for it... see for yourself why we rank so high!

Do you live in British Columbia? Did you used to live in British Columbia? Do you want to live there (or even just visit)?

If so, then join B.C. BOINC

We\'re a small but growing team that is dedicated to the same principals our province was founded on, such as innovations in engineering and entreprenuership, the environment, and hard work. We hope you\'ll join us as we do our part for science!

B.C. BOINC - More than a team, a philosophy!

To clarify some points:

I do take into account dial-up users, but did not think the thread\'s length warranted respawning it as yet. What I objected to was the moderator suddenly respawning it on his own initiative without consultation.

In future, since it appears there are more dial-up users here than on other projects, this thread will be respawned at 100 posts.

Thank you.

It\'s official! We\'re now only 15% as good as other teams!

No, wait, that can\'t be right. Let me start again.

B.C. BOINC is now as good as 15% of teams!

That can\'t be it. Whose writing is this anyway? Let me see that again!

A-ha! Now I see! B.C. BOINC is now in the top 15% of all teams!

Congrats! It\'s always nice to see the first WU finished on CPDN. It is a long haul, and well worth the effort. Keep up the great job.

Reformat and then come on back and start the next one, I hope!

Thanks, but I\'m going to be setting CPDN to no new work and crunching other projects that I\'ve been neglecting for a while, some of which I joined months ago and still have no credit on. Maybe in future.

This may seem like a small milestone, but it\'s big to me. I just finished my first CPDN model, after 934:10:40 of crunch time on and off for the last year and a half (the client said I was nearly 182 days overdue!). Of course, I was also crunching other projects and finishing off SETI@Home Classic during this time, hence why it took so long, but... it\'s done! Yes!

Now I can reformat my hard drive tomorrow.

Once again, British Columbia makes the headlines for being at the cutting edge of dealing with tough social issues, as shown in this article from News of the Weird:

Andrew Uitvlugt, candidate for mayor of Kelowna, British Columbia, proposed in November to coax drug addicts into public jobs, such as trash collection, by rewarding them with crack cocaine, on the theory that the work would be so fulfilling that they would ultimately decline the drugs. (He finished fourth out of five candidates.) [Calgary Herald, 11-11-05; Vancouver Sun, 11-20-05]

You can\'t get an education in B.C. right now, so, you might as well contribute to science!

32) Message boards : Number crunching : RAC (Or lack thereof) (Message 15545)
Posted 30 Aug 2005 by Profile old_user16309
Post:
I have recently noticed that, since the credit-granting problems of a couple months ago, my RAC, after being bumped up to something amazing, has reduced down to zero and stayed there, despite trickles still being granted credit. Has anyone else had this happen? Is it a weird side effect of the trickling that CPDN does rather than just completing a workunit and sending it in like other projects?

Thanks!

Just an update. The deadline has come and gone, the program is still trickling and I'm still getting credit for it, so, all is well. Well, except that my client is in EDF mode still and I won't be getting work from any other project for a while without my intervention, so... AH well.

Apologies if this has come up before, but I couldn\'t find it. I have been using my computer for various BOINC and non-BOINC things and as a result I find myself in the position that I am going to miss the 1-year deadline for my current model on CPDN. My question is does this have a bearing on credit or anything? I suspect the model will still continue to trickle and that they would rather I keep plugging away at it until it finishes. Any comments?

Probably should have just summed up the current members' totals and applied them to their teams, in the absence of being able to reconstruct anything more accurately, and then let the normal BOINC procedure rule, but, at least my team has its credits back.

36) Message boards : Cafe CPDN : Why slow down Fossil Fuel consumption? (Message 14333)
Posted 13 Jul 2005 by Profile old_user16309
Post:
Okay, so, we've all heard the talk: we should cut down on fossil fuel consumption because it causes environmental damage, it's toxic, it accumulates in human habitats and is having an effect on the overall warming of the world. Plus, we only have a limited supply of it, so, stretch it out as long as we can.

Why?

One of the main reasons we don't have more use of other sources of energy is because petroleum-based fuels still exist in reasonable quantities and (for now) are still affordable (until China and India REALLY get going).

So, I'm changing my car in a way that I would encourage all of you to do. No, I'm not buying a hybrid or a smart car, but an original 1972 Cadillac ElDorado with the V-8 engine that got 10 gallons to the mile. If more of us continued to drive classic cars like this (though, I admit, a modern SUV is a good second choice) then we'll have global oil reserves depleted by February and can finally concentrate on renewable, cleaner energy sources!

Who's with me?

> thx for the information :-)
>
> So Raven's team should get his credits after the next update.

Hope so! In my case, restoring my team's score would be easy: I've been the only member so far, so, my score is also my team's. Other peopls might be more difficult, granted, but, I'm still hopeful it can be worked out.

My team's stats dropped to 0 and according to Mundayweb I'm not even a part of any team, so, something's seriously screwed up still. However, here's hoping it's all temporary. I'm sure the guys at CPDN have their hands full as it is.

Well, I do believe that is part of the whole pre-alpha thing. They're working on it. From what I did manage to gather, they're using BOINC for the computations necessary to render high-quality, high-resolution MPEG4 computer animations. They had links to a few already completed examples when I last looked. In future they plan to throw the BURP project's network open for any animator who has work needing to be rendered.

Like pirates, work from it is sporadic at the moment. They're just getting it off the ground.

(OH, and I just happen to think the project idea is cool. The fact that they made me user of the day less than 7 hours after I joined has nothing to do with my mentioning it here.)

No, this is not an indication of my lack of table manners, but, a BOINC-based project I just became aware of:

http://burp.boinc.dk/

It's in what they describe as a pre-alpha phase, so, that means it's buggy and wanting for work, but it is open to the public, so, if you think you can handle another project...
