Workunit 8537095

My machine is Computer 1305887

I got a WU after a previous user missed their deadline. A few hours after I received the WU, the previous user finished the task and it is now marked as completed for them. The WU has a validation state of pending. Since this task has max # of success results set to 1, should I abort the task?

4) Message boards : Number crunching : BOINC Graphics Suggestion (Message 27568)

Post:
Good idea not to use the screensaver.

The graphics window already shows the countdown to the next trickle. You may need to type Z then 8 on the keyboard to reveal these details.

Uh, is it maybe something besides 8 ? That gives me the countdown to the next Checkpoint. There is space for another line between the \"progress\" line and the \"Next Checkpoint\" line, but I tried another few keys and none of the ones I tried put anything there.

Right now I go to the CPDN website and look at my account, but that probably places extra load on a busy server. Also, I\'m still on dial-up, because I\'m too far from town, so it means I have to be connected to the internet.

I\'ve just started using a hand calculator to take the current timestep and divide it by 25920 to get the number of trickles and the percentage of the next trickle that has been processed. That gives me some idea when I need to be online for the next trickle up.
5) Message boards : Number crunching : Calculation of BS-rac. (Message 27554)
Posted 27 Mar 2007 by old_user15791
Post:
Willy calculates his own RAC, mainly because some projects don\'t let the RAC decrease the RAC for crunchers that stopped crunching.

Thanks for posting that Saenger. I had been trying to figure out why the points matched but the RAC was different. IIRC, the Rank is different also.

Thanks,

6) Message boards : Number crunching : BOINC Graphics Suggestion (Message 27553)
Posted 27 Mar 2007 by old_user15791
Post:
I wanted to make the suggestion that some more info be added to the screensaver/Graphics. It would be nice to tell how many trickle messages have been sent and how many timesteps until the next trickle.

Note: I have my display power down so I don\'t use the screensaver part. I just hit the \"Show Graphics\" button in BOINC manager once in a while to see where things stand. I don\'t actually know if the screensaver displays something different.

Thanks,

7) Questions and Answers : Windows : Who do I tell I lost a workunit? (Message 23079)
Posted 9 Jun 2006 by old_user15791
Post:
It won\'t get marked on a person\'s account page as \'no longer running\' until the one year deadline. e.g. your model: 818028, which shows as: No reply.

You have to go to the \"Work unit ID\" page to see if it has been re-issued.
And this won\'t happen now with slab and sulphur models, as they are obsolete.

Thank you for clarifying that. I had lightning fry 2 computers (yes, they were on UPSs) and had a disk go bad on a third so it\'s been an interesting time getting all my BOINC projects straightened out.

Thanks,

8) Questions and Answers : Windows : Who do I tell I lost a workunit? (Message 23076)
Posted 9 Jun 2006 by old_user15791
Post:
When the server hasn\'t heard from a model for a few weeks, it\'s automatically labeled as lost, and marked for re-issue.

I don\'t think that feature is working for older workunits. I have a work unit whose last trickle (the tenth trickle) was 12 Sep 2005 and it\'s still marked as running. Result # 165616

It would be nice if there was a way for the trickle message to include a list of all CPDN workunits on the machine so some don\'t get lost.

Any update on this? My last trickle shows on the CPDN website as timestep 155,520 (cpu time 684,309) but I\'m at timestep 238,327 (cpu time 1,065,290)and I\'ve seen several trickles sent but nothing shows up since that 27 Apr 2006 trickle.

10) Questions and Answers : Unix/Linux : After adding CP to boinc on RHEL, all CP WU fail immediately (Message 7265)
Posted 12 Jan 2005 by old_user15791
Post:
I have a RHEL / CPanel system that's been running boinc (as a service) with just seti for months now. I've tried to add CP on more than one occasion and it will never run workunits.

I stop the service as root and "su /home/boinc" so that boinc will own all the new files created (just like I did when originally installing it and attaching seti).

Here's the output from an entire session where I tried to attach CP. ~ = /home/boinc

Any suggestions as to what the problem is ? It's been several weeks since the last time I tried and I think there were different versions of the software then so it's not version specific.

I'm running the latest RHEL and CPanel. It's a server located at a datacentre in Texas on a 100Mbit vlan connection to the internet. The reason the downloads/uploads were so slow was that my default profile limits them because two of my other computers are on dialup. I've since increased the download limit in my default profile. BTW, isn't 26 (0x1a) the EOF character in ascii?

here's the current contents of the project directory
