Hi there,

there appears to be an issue between current versions of BOINC CPDN and Antivir. This problem has been discussed in the Forum
It might also be the cause of question 3593 and 3521 asked here.

Quick summary: Work Units fail with an error -2 after roughly 2 hrs. of computation time.
Here\'s the log:
2005-12-27 23:52:57 [climateprediction.net] Starting result sulphur_hvrx_000834333_0 using sulphur_cycle version 422
2005-12-28 02:21:56 [---] Can\'t open temp state file: client_state_next.xml
2005-12-28 02:21:56 [---] Couldn\'t write state file: system fopen
2005-12-28 02:22:56 [---] request_reschedule_cpus: process exited
2005-12-28 02:22:56 [climateprediction.net] Computation for result sulphur_hvrx_000834333_0 finished

After that error, the desktop graphics are sometimes corrupted (transparent buttons, multilayer text). The problem started to appear in April (according to the forums).

Of course there is a workaround: Switch to another AV scanner. But this might not be an option to some people (including myself). I have suspended CPDN for the time being.

So here is the question: Do you plan on fixing this problem anytime soon?

Thank you for your answer,

Peter

Do you have Antivir installed as virus scanner? Those two (antivir and cpdn) are known to interact badly in certain versions (at least in the two most recent ones).

Switching to another virus scanner might solve your problem. If this is not an option for you, you might consider either downgrading to an earlier version of CPDN (don\'t ask me how to do that) or disabling climateprediction for the time being.

If you want to test whether antivir is causing the problems you\'ll either have to completely uninstall the program or at least terminate every antivir task (either from the task manager or, if you are running XP Professional, from the \"Services\" tool - found in Control Panel - Administration). Just stopping the scanner from the resident utility won\'t help.

For me, changing the AV scanner was not an option, and neither was downgrading the client. So I have disabled CPDN for the time being.

If any of the CPDN people are reading this: Please get the client fixed so it will work with antivir.
