Hello,

I just finished long wah2 task. Credit has been applied but status of the finished task shows as 'Didn't need' and 'Run time' and 'CPU time' shows 0.

There was a bug in the code for this batch which led to nearly all of them failing at the very end even though they appeared to finish. This led to the batch of work being withdrawn. I thought Andy or one of the other project people had arranged for the project servers to send the kill signal to the computers running them so they could be terminated and allow more work to reach the computers. Clearly if sent, that kill signal didn't reach all the computers running the tasks or if it did, it didn't work!

Edit: If you step through the task pages for others in the batch by increasing the last digit of the url by one at a time, you will see several others have that status.

I think that kill signal only works when the PC running one of those tasks communicates with the server. Since there was quite a period of time between trickles on that PC, it probably was the first contact with cpdn after the decision was made to withdraw the batch.

As usual you are right, a more careful look at the task and I would have seen the clue.

I had/have 2 of these.

One completed of feb 6.

https://www.cpdn.org/cpdnboinc/result.php?resultid=21469541

But the other is still running

https://www.cpdn.org/cpdnboinc/result.php?resultid=21469551

Last Trickle was on feb 12. He is now at 80%

Should I abort this one?

I just started with calculating for CPDN. But so far is seems to be a waste of computer time as 2 of the 3 runs have been for nothing :-( But I hope this due to all the problems lately. I will give it the benfit of the doubt

Yes, please abort all batch 781 models. That batch was closed on 22nd January.

It was talked about somewhere in Number crunching at the time.

But so far is seems to be a waste of computer time as 2 of the 3 runs have been for nothing

That, unfortunately, is part of this "leading edge" research.
While we haven't had a "project kill" in over a decade, things do go wrong, which is why this isn't a "set and forget" project.

No work at the moment either, which is another problem here, with so few models, and so many computers waiting to pounce.
