This task https://www.cpdn.org/cpdnboinc/result.php?resultid=21143964 completed successfully today, but as you can see it received no credit. Worse still, according to the statistics tab on BOINC Manager, my total credit went down by a large amount after the task was completed. This is on top of a huge negative credit I received after the CPDN servers came back online. What on Earth is going on, and how do I get this corrected?

See thread 'Credit System"
https://www.cpdn.org/cpdnboinc/forum_thread.php?id=8587
Amongst others.

I think it'a always a good idea to look at previous threads before posting yet another on the same subject

I did look at that thread before posting, but it appears (to me) to be discussing credit export, which (as it says) was achieved using a script that before the outage ran weekly (because otherwise it couldn't complete in time). However, I'm talking about the individual task credit, as reported on the CPDN website. That in the past wouldn't be at zero upon successful completion.

If I have to wait for a different script to be fixed, or there is some other reason why successfully completed tasks now have zero credit when previously they didn't, then please say so (if you know) rather than criticising on the assumption that I haven't checked other threads first.

For the last few years ALL completed tasks have had zero credits until the scripts ran over the weekend.

And now there's a problem of some sort which won't get looked at until next week because of the BOINC meeting all of this week at Oxford.

A thought has occurred to me regarding why it may have seemed that models have received credit when they finish.

Unlike other projects, cpdn uses the trickle_up information to allocate credit.
Trickles are produced at regular intervals during the length of the modeling, at about the same times as the zips are created.

So, for a model whose run time extends across a weekend, (and most do), any trickles received up to some time on the Saturday, will be "converted" to credit over that weekend. And when you look at the model on completion, some credit will be there.

BUT not all of it - the remainder won't appear until after the following weekend.

I've not seen a task complete on zero credit, but I've never had a task complete in under a week. Since completion tended to be a bit of event, I would always look on the website to see what credit I had received (not knowing, until now, that the credit wasn't in fact up-to-date). So what you say would make sense, Les, but only if the credit from all trickles uploaded before the outage was wiped out by whatever was done during outage (the task concerned spanned the outage period).

The 3rd post down in the News section at the top of this board gives a summary of what happened if you're interested.

It's all a bit of a mess, and the discussion about lost credits is still on going.

OK, so far I've found three News and Announcements threads, none of which tells me in the third post down what happened to credit from trickles, no matter which way I order them.

What would be really helpful is a thread here https://www.cpdn.org/cpdnboinc/forum_forum.php?id=71 keeping people (who are almost certainly unaware of how CPDN works "under the hood") up to date with what appears to be working and what is broken following the outage. It could include links to discussion threads. As it is, anyone finding they have an issue is faced with trawling through an increasing number of different threads on multiple fora trying to find out if they have a new problem, or if they just need to be patient (and preferably for how long). Eg:
    Downloads: Working.
    Trickles: Working.
    Final Upload: Working.
    ...
Credit reporting on CPDN: Broken, with credit from trickles before the outage temporarily lost. Unlikely to be fixed for at least two weeks. See <url>.
Credit export: Working, but with bad data (see above).

No, not in this Number Crunching section, it's a section all to it self, right at the top of the Message board.

Yes, I looked there, ordering both newest first and oldest first. Either way, the third post says nothing about what has happened to credit from trickles.

I didn't say that it's about trickles, but about what happened to the project.

Lots of data got lost, including the trickle info. Looking for places that may contain this data has been ongoing. And may continue for a while yet.

***************

What has happened in the last few days to trickles and credit, is "something". <insert spooky music and ominous creaking>
And this will get looked into next week, because this week everyone is at the BOINC meeting.

Thank you. I had seen that post a while back, but obviously I don't know the details of how CPDN works, what data was lost, temporarily or forever, or why there is no usable backup, and it didn't answer my questions. And there appears to be a strong reluctance to create a single place for people to look to find out what is the current status and if the problem they are experiencing might be known about and being worked on. Hence the explosion of posts asking what happened and reporting problems that may or may not be related to problems raised in other threads. This entire thread itself would not exist if such a status page existed.

One month ago 600k credits get lost somehow.
Now i have 232 WUs pending and every new workunit pays zero.
Therefore I stopped climateprediction completely.
Is there a chance that this chaos will end soon ??

The "Pending credit" column/lists are a part of the BOINC system, but they're NOT used in this project, which has it's own system.
And neither is "Validation".

As for the credits here, as has been posted several times recently, this is currently being worked on RIGHT NOW.
