It's possible to use the url in BOINC's "Add project", by inserting an s after http for the secure connection.

Which is: https://www.climateprediction.net/

But no work to download.

Les...to do that, I'll have to first remove the CPDN project from BOINC -- which will (I assume) abort all current in-process tasks. Is this what I need to do?

Just to report: All my completed and errored-out work has been up-loaded successfully to the server.
And even some computers have received new WUs and are crunching climateprediction.net again.
I HAVE NOT CHANGED ANYTHING ON THESE COMPUTERS, so it seems to me, there is no need to re-attach to the project nor is it necessary to change the address of climateprediction.net.
It is more like a little patience is needed!

Attaching with https is more secure. Not sure if you lose that security by allowing the automatic redirect from http? - Not an area I have studied.

DON'T change the url until you've uploaded everything.
And even then I think that the re-direct now works.

Can you get the zips to upload as is?
The Status page shows that the trickle server is down, so they won't upload.

Les,

I tried (silly me) to add CPDN again as a second instance on my primary machine with https/. It appeared to install correctly as a second CPDN project but the 3 in process tasks I originally had were all immediately tagged as "abandoned" and have disappeared from BOINC. So I removed the new "extra" CPDN project instance. I'm back to CPDN with just http...which is attempting to download a new task...but it's not downloading currently. So on my primary machine I've got CPDN installed (http) but no tasks to crunch currently. My playing around created a mess, I'm afraid.

I can try to simply resume CPDN on another machine that has tasks to crunch (without changing it to https) and see if it will do anything, if you think that's worth a try.

For what it's worth I'm getting the following error. I think I'll remove the project and try to reinstall. Should I use http or https ?

All I can do is repeat what I've said before:

There are NO tasks to download, so stop trying to.

And leave the urls alone.
Just get on with running whatever you already have, and then upload all of the data.

However, for those of your computers that don't have tasks/ zips waiting, you CAN disconnect and then reattach using the secure url (https).

*************************

As for those new error messages, let's just wait until there IS work available and see what everyone gets then.

OK...Sorry. I'm done messing around!. The one new task did just complete downloading, however, so I'll start processing the one new task and see what happens.

My completed (for months) tasks finally disappeared, so I assume they uploaded. Credits dropped from 5.8 million to 5 million, but I understand that the credit problem is being fixed. I added the new URL and deleted the old project.

Question 1: Do I need to do anything else to start crunching numbers again?

Question 2: How can I check to see that my completed tasks did in fact upload?

Question 3: More of a curiosity -- With getting rid of the old project URL and adding the new one, will I be starting from zero in terms of credits, or will the old ones eventually migrate over?

1 Only need to wait until new tasks are released.

2 There isn't any record of the zips that get uploaded, as they go to servers all over the world. But you can see the list of trickle_ups that were received, and the Status of the task on the Task list on your Account page.

3 If you re-attached as an existing user, then all credits will show up in/on that Account. You have a large amount under your name to the left of your post here, so all should be good.

And thanks for the info about the tasks finally uploading. There's been lots of concern about this, but no one has said yet.

And in the middle of typing this, the database was taken down for it's scheduled maintenance. :(
But it's back up and running again..

Glad CPDN is back.

Any idea whether there are any tasks that Macs can handle?
In the days leading up to the system crash, I had two completed tasks that were hung out to dry as it were and were never able to report
In addition, there were four others that were chugging along when the system went down.
None of them have even shown up in my assigned tasks even though I received them in March.
I would like another crack at them.

There have been no new Mac tasks for over a year. Any that have shown up since then will have been old abandoned tasks that have just reached their 1 year time out.
I don't have any information on progress with trying to get a Mac version of the programs working, but I'm guessing that there won't be, especially now that Apple has made it impossible for 32 bit programs to run.

As for your tasks that aren't on any lists, they may be among those went missing during the massive failure of all of the cloud computers.
(Some may still show up, if the project people are still working on data recovery.)

Even Linux models haven't been available since about the middle of last year.

At present, people with Linux machines need to run Wine, a Windows version of BOINC, and then the Windows climate models.

The latest version is Wine V3.something. I've found a very nice tutorial on how to get that version, if anyone wants to go via this path. (Ask in the Linux section.)

Not at present. However sorting out the problem with Mac and Linux tasks may resume once the credit system is fixed and the slave database is up and running. (There may well be other things I don't know of in the queue as well.)

It occurred to me that there may be something similar to Wine that works on Macs to allow them to run Windows programs.

A quick net scan shows lots of threads, with this one near the top:
How to run windows programs on a mac with wine

So this may be a solution.
I've have to try it on my MacBook Air.
