Is there a visualization option with the BOINC version? I don\'t have any.

Sure there is - under BOINC tab 'Work Unit' right click on desired WU and choose 'Show Graphics'. It apply to all BOINC project that has graphics available.
hit H for help under vis or play on keyboard to make world rotating and showing other than temp maps. A mouse for rotating and holding Control for zooming do also pretty good.
Tip: hit '0' for hidding stars.
