This model is running OK. http://climateapps2.oerc.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/result.php?resultid=17098764 However, the graphics when I select "Clouds" looks like this image. The other graphics (temperature, pressure, etc) are fine. What is wrong with this model? |

Interesting! First time I have looked at graphics for a while and I only have the one anz model at them moment - that shows normal graphics for the Clouds and everything else for that matter. What happens when you use keys 1-5 to hide different cloud layers? |

Ah, so the clouds are actually changing when I use the number keys 1-5 to change them.... The weird characters appear to be part of the ocean and land bitmap. Hmm... I wonder if there's a corrupt or missing graphic file? Any idea what file(s) to look at? |

Afraid not, I haven't delved that deeply into the workings of my models, however if you run out of work, take the opportunity to either reset the project or detach and re-attach to it which will cause the relevant files to be re-downloaded. Might be worth checking out globe.jpg If that isn't the problem it is one of the files that is generated by the task I think. |

I found a file called stderrgfx.txt, and inside are a bunch of the following lines: Failed to load '/var/lib/boinc/projects/climateprediction.net/globe.jpg'. So, I'm guessing my globe.jpg file is corrupted. Anyone got a download link? |

this post gives a link to download another file someone was having trouble with but I couldn't work out how to find globe.jpg for your task but you might have more persistence or better luck! |

this post gives a link to download another file someone was having trouble with but I couldn't work out how to find globe.jpg for your task but you might have more persistence or better luck! Having a rogue backslash in that link doesn't help! Corrected above. The download url is easily found in client_state.xml, but don't start venturing into there without a guide. I'm out of tasks just at the moment because I've been away, but the next time I get one I'll check the location and file size you'd expect for a manual download. (My current one, left over from previous runs, is 238,676 bytes. I've had it since 16 July.) |

Will make a point of checking links work properly before posting next time. Thanks Richard. |

I've seen this before, the Selectric effect--simultaneously annoying and fantastic IMHO. I think this is related to a permissions issue that crops up on Linux machines--see this post. Check the permissions on the graphic jpegs and support files. Run if necessary: chmod 644 /var/lib/boinc-client/projects/climateprediction.net/*.jpg chmod 755 /var/lib/boinc-client/projects/climateprediction.net/t*f chmod 644 /var/lib/boinc-client/projects/climateprediction.net/t*f/* |

That would explain why I don't have the problem as I don't have the packaged version of BOINC but have it installed in it's own usr dir. |

Oh yeah, I forgot where I put that thread. :P I did fix permissions, but I'm missing those jpeg files. :( I'll try getting some work tonight. If that fails, I'll reset the project. |

Well, that's not going to work, because there's no work available. :( |

There is now -- a batch of HadCM3s. Which don't have a graphics app for Windows, so of course they don't help us find the globe.jpg for download. |

I've checked the log for the original downloads for one of my Linux machines, and there's no download for globe.jpg So globe, plus the jpg for the view of a specific model type, must be bundled up with the graphics program for each model type. If just deleting globe.jpg doesn't give you a new one when you download a PNW model, try deleting globe.jpg, pnw.jpg and the PNW graphics program. As the new batch of PNWs seem to have problems, try it with a single PNW model. It's going to be a few hours before I can test this. |

OK, that didn't work. There must be other files involved as well. So the only way to get a new globe.jpg would be to remove ALL pnw stuff, as well as globe.jpg Perhaps a Project Reset. |

I've checked the log for the original downloads for one of my Linux machines, and there's no download for globe.jpg The global and regional jpg files are in the application's "se" zip file (hadam3p_pnw_se_7.22_windows_intelx86.zip for PNW v7.22 on Windows). I don't get the weird graphics anymore, but now the earth graphic (land and sea) is missing. |
